EastEnders’ George Knight (Colin Salmon) and Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) have hardly had what you’d call a ‘traditional’ romance.
Though they’re both strong, fearsome when required and dedicated to their respective families, Nicola’s dark side for outweighs George’s, and her killer secret might well be what finally destroys any chance of the two properly getting together before their baby arrives.
After an initial spark that seemed sure to turn into something more substantial, Nicola and George split during the burgeoning of Ravi Gulati’s (Aaron Thiara) drug enterprise that ensnared both Nicola’s son, Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway) and George’s brother, Kojo Asare (Dayo Koleosho).
Unbeknownst to either at the time, though, Nicola had fallen pregnant, something she initially only told Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton).
When a withdrawing and desperate Harry spilled the tea to George, he was initially floored and sought the advice of his daughter, Gina (Francesca Henry), who gave her dad a metaphorical clip round the ear and told him to put his (again, metaphorical) big boy pants on.
After Harry overdosed, Nicola began to feel pain and, while at the hospital, agreed with George to get a scan. Though the pain turned out to be nothing and it was confirmed that the baby is okay, the sight of their child on the sonogram and the sound of its heartbeat convinced them both to keep the baby, and fresh hope of a future bloomed between the two.
Ever since, however, Nicola has been single-mindedly focussed on destroying Ravi on behalf of her son, who’s thirst for revenge has been unquenchable. Finding Harry ready to cave Ravi’s head in with a spanner, Nicola convinced him to approach things in a more clever way, and they settled on a sinister spiking plan.
Their scheme proved utterly disastrous for Ravi, who, while under the influence of the drugs, hallucinated visions of his evil, deceased dad, Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry), and, when trying to fight him off, savagely attacked his young son, Nugget (Juhaim Rasul Choudhury).
With Ravi swearing revenge, he headed to the Mitchell’s, determined to make them pay for what they did to him and, by extension, his son. Though it looked as though the bloodshed would continue, George stepped in to defend Nicola, though was floored by her confession that she had orchestrated the entire thing.
Next week sees Honey attempting to bring George and Nicola together, though her husband, Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick), is less than enthused, with the words of brother Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian), ringing in his ears.
After Teddy took the rap for Harry’s killing of Okie Okyere (Aayan Ibikunle Shoderu) and was sentenced to life in prison, his lawyer pulled a few strings to allow for a clandestine meeting between the brothers, and when Teddy learned that Nicola was pregnant by George, he asked Billy to pass on a warning.

‘You got to tell George to watch himself,’ Teddy said. ‘She’s poison, Bill. She’ll ruin him. You don’t know her. You only know her really when it’s too late. Do it, Bill. Don’t let her ruin anyone else’s life. Let this end with me.’
Unable to keep quiet and despite Honey’s adorable match-making attempt, Billy tells George what Teddy said.
When George’s offer to buy Walford East is turned down, Nicola offers to come on board as an investor, though Teddy’s warning is weighing heavily on him and he turns her down.
Has Teddy’s final act destroyed any hope of George and Nicola reuniting forever? …and will he ever discover the truth of her murderous past?
