EastEnders spoilers follow for Thursday’s (January 15) episode which is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

After weeks of speculation over who killed Anthony Trueman (Nicholas Bailey), EastEnders has finally confirmed the identity of the culprit.

Anthony, as viewers know, died on Christmas Day shortly after an altercation with Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan), in which he struck his head of the back of a wall.

Zoe handed herself into the police over the crime, determined to take responsibility for what she believed was her fault. However, it was soon believed that Anthony died from a subsequent blow to the skull – not the one inflicted by Zoe.

Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) reckoned that Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman) was to blame, believing her to have deliberately set nemesis Zoe up for the crime so that she would experience a life in prison, much like she did for two decades.

In a bid to get answers, Kat set off to locate Chrissie, while Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) remained in the Square with Alfie (Shane Richie).

Jean (Gillian Wright), meanwhile, suspected that Jasmine was to blame for Anthony’s demise but her theories weren’t taken seriously by her loved ones, with the matriarch issuing a warning to those around her to be careful of the newcomer.

In Thursday’s (January 15) visit to the Square, Patrick (Rudolph Walker) prepared to see son Anthony’s body in the funeral parlour, hopeful that Jasmine would come along too.

But having sought solace in booze the night before, Jasmine refused to do so. When Chelsea Fox (Zaarah Abrahams) spoke to her, she let slip that Anthony’s behaviour had been questionable in recent years, with Patrick forced to fill his granddaughter in on the true extent of his son’s actions.

Jasmine was horrified but, after Patrick reiterated his belief that Anthony had it in him to be a good man, she decided to go with him to Cokers.

In emotional scenes, Patrick said a heartfelt goodbye to Anthony, as did Yolande (Angela Winter), Denise (Diane Parish) and Kim (Tameka Empson).

But then things took a sinister turn.

In unsettling scenes, Jasmine spoke to Anthony’s body while playing a video that she recorded on Christmas Day, which confirmed that she intervened in the brawl he’d had with Zoe on the day in question.

The clip revealed that she attacked violent Anthony – while Zoe was unconscious on the floor – to protect her mum, confirming the long-suspected fan theory that Jasmine is the one to blame for his demise.

Will her secret be revealed? And will Zoe be freed from prison?
