Coronation Street newcomer Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) has been somewhat of an enigma for viewers since her mysterious first appearance in Corriedale.
Over the past few days, we have started to learn more about her, including the fact that she is Shona Platt’s (Julia Goulding) half-sister.
When we first saw Jodie, she was tied up in the back of a van being driven by Emmerdale villain Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), but we have yet to find out what that was all about.
What we do know is that Jodie was able to escape, and ended up in the same hospital as Shona and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd). When Shona was transferred to Weatherfield General to deliver daughter Harper, Jodie followed, and eventually came face to face with her sister.
Though Shona made it clear that she had too much to cope with following Harper’s birth and would get in contact with Jodie once things had settled, David invited her to stay in their spare room after spotting her having a panic attack outside the hospital.
In tonight’s episode, he had to break the news to Shona, whose anger dissipated surprisingly quickly.
However, Shona wanted answers from her sister about what had led to her current situation, and pointed out that she’d seen a bruise on her arm.
Jodie told Shona that she had left an abusive partner, which is why she had nowhere to go, and that she had got caught up in the multi-vehicle pile-up while trying to escape.
Shona asked Jodie if she’d reported the abuse to the police, but she insisted she couldn’t because her partner had connections, and Shona assured her that she was safe with her.
Viewers will know that there is certainly more to the story, given how she was first introduced, but Shona seemed to believe that she’d been completely honest.
Later, she explained to David why she had been so hesitant to have Jodie back in her life.
She revealed that she had promised Jodie when she left home that she would be back, but she left it too late, and they had moved by the time she worked up the courage to return.

As Shona admitted that seeing her again reminded her that she had let her down, David questioned why she’d never mentioned anything before.
Shona brushed him off and told him that with Harper to worry about, he should leave Jodie to her.
After reassuring Jodie that she would be okay later that evening, Shona headed upstairs, and Jodie continued to act suspiciously as she threw a sim card into the bin – presumably the same one that had been in her phone when it blew up with missed calls and messages before her panic attack at the hospital.
What exactly is she hiding from? Is there some truth to the story she told Shona, or is Jodie running from a much more dangerous situation?
Could her presence put the Platts at risk?
