Breaking: Kwankwaso bows to pressure, endorses Gov Yusuf, NNPP defections to APC

Former Governor of Kano State and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has endorsed the planned defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other elected officials of the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso made the announcement in a short video seen on Facebook on Tuesday and shared by his media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, a development that has sent shockwaves through Kano’s political scene.

The endorsement represents a major U-turn by the former governor, who had earlier strongly opposed the move. Kwankwaso had accused Governor Yusuf and other NNPP office holders of betraying the mandate given to them by the people of Kano.

Explaining his new position, Kwankwaso, who spoke in Hausa, said he decided to back the defection to allow party members to exercise their political rights and to ease rising tensions within the NNPP in the state.

Political analysts say the move may be an attempt by Kwankwaso to manage an already unfolding political realignment, choosing to align with the momentum of events rather than risk losing influence altogether.

Details soon…
