ROP thwart large-scale drug and alcohol trafficking attempts

Muscat – Royal Oman Police (ROP) have successfully intercepted several maritime smuggling operations across different governorates, resulting in the arrest of 14 expats and the seizure of significant quantities of illicit goods. In a coordinated effort to maintain border security, the Coast Guard Police of Dhofar Governorate apprehended 5 Yemeni nationals attempting to enter Omani territorial waters illegally on a fishing boat laden with narcotics intended for trafficking. Simultaneously, the South Batinah Governorate Police arrested an individual of Asian nationality who had concealed quantities of crystal meth and psychotropic substances within a fishing vessel for the purpose of distribution and personal consumption.

Further north, Coast Guard patrols in the Musandam Governorate intercepted 3 separate vessels carrying 8 Asian expats. These suspects were found to be illegally entering the Sultanate’s waters while transporting large quantities of alcoholic beverages meant for smuggling and trade. All 14 suspects have been taken into custody, and the ROP confirmed that legal proceedings are currently being finalised against all parties involved to ensure the integrity of the nation’s maritime borders.
