FBI won't co-operate with state investigators in Minneapolis ICE shooting case

WARNING: The above video contains confronting footage.

Minnesota law enforcement officials have decried the FBI after the federal agency stepped in to take over the investigation of an ICE agent shooting a driver yesterday.

An immigration agent shot Renee Nicole Good, 37, during a confrontation on a street in Minneapolis.

Yesterday, it was reported the FBI would be cooperating with state agencies in investigating the shooting.

Heavily armed ICE agents face off with protesters in Minnesota.

But overnight, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (MCA) was blocked from accessing evidence in the case.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, who would be responsible for pressing charges in state court, criticised the move.

"After the FBI rescinded its cooperation agreement with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, our office immediately began exploring all options to ensure a state level investigation can continue," she said in a statement.

"If the FBI is the sole investigative agency, the State will not receive the investigative findings, and our community may never learn about its contents."

The ICE agent fired three shots, killing Renee Nicole Good.

State law enforcement officials said it would be very hard to bring charges without access to the evidence.

Governor Tim Walz said it would be "very, very difficult" for Minnesotans to believe an investigation could be fair without the use of local investigators.

"People in positions of power have already passed judgment, from the president to the vice president to (Homeland Security Secretary) Kristi Noem — have stood and told you things that are verifiably false, verifiably inaccurate," Walz said.

"It feels very, very difficult that we will get a fair outcome.

"There will certainly be civil cases filed on this, and they will be filed in Minnesota court."

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance said the officer who shot Good had "absolute immunity".

"The precedent here is very simple. You have a federal law enforcement official engaging in federal law enforcement action.

"That's a federal issue. That guy is protected by absolute immunity.

"He was doing his job."

The Star-Tribune has identified the agent as Jonathan David Ross, a 10-year veteran of ICE.

Vance said the officer had previously been struck and dragged by a car in a similar incident months earlier.

"So you think maybe he's a little bit sensitive about somebody ramming him with an automobile?"

The ICE agent involved in yesterday's shooting needed dozens of stitches in a previous event.

Court records in that case stated Ross had been dragged about 90m down a Minnesota road while attempting to apprehend a suspect.

Vance said Good was a victim of "left-wing ideology".

"I can believe that her death is a tragedy while also recognising that it is a tragedy of her own making," he said.

The officer fired at Good three times when she moved her car forward as another ICE agent grabbed at her car handle.

The ICE agent involved in yesterday's shooting was previously dragged by a car.

Mobile phone footage appears to show the agent was already out of the path of the Honda when the shots were fired.

Good was an American citizen.

In the hours after her death, the Trump administration characterised Good's actions as an attempt to "weaponise" her car.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey described that as "bullshit".

"This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody getting killed," Frey said.

"We've dreaded this moment since the early stages of this ICE presence in Minneapolis."
