There’s a shocking discovery in Emmerdale soon as Jai (Chris Bisson), Caleb (William Ash) and Billy (Jay Kontzle) find something they weren’t expecting in one of the vans at the depot – the body of Ray Walters (Joe Absolom).

Viewers previously saw Ray’s lifeless body being dragged along the ground, presumably by the person who killed him though the identity of that person is currently a mystery.

Apparently they were dragging the body towards the depot to stash it in one of Caleb’s fleet of vans. Whether this was a deliberate ploy to frame someone for the murder or not, it’s not long before the police turn their attention to Jai Sharma.

He’s the one who used the van most recently and the police want him to explain exactly when he had access to it, where he was and what he was doing. After they’ve gone, there’s no let-up in the pressure on Jai because Caleb demands to know whether there’s anything Jai wants to tell him. Jai suggests Celia (Jaye Griffiths) must have killed Ray (though we know it was the other way round), but Caleb thinks it’s someone closer to home.

When the police return they question Caleb about any possible connections between Jai and Ray (other than their names rhyming). He tells them that Jai was previously married to Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy), who has been romantically involved with Ray. The police make a note of this as a possible motive for Jai being responsible for the killing.

But could they be looking at the wrong person? Laurel herself is acting suspiciously. Her world was turned upside down when she discovered that the man she thought was a genuine and lovely person was actually a drug dealer and people trafficker.

After Ray was killed we saw her wiping a pair of scissors before putting them back in the kitchen drawer, and when she gets the news about Ray her reaction is to go to the church and pray. Does she have something she needs to get off her conscience?

The police soon want to question her, but their focus is still on Jai and they’re interested when Laurel tells them that Jai could have been unhappy about her romance with Ray. She assures them that Jai couldn’t be capable of murder, but he’s soon taken in for questioning.

After he’s answered questions at the police staton he’s released, but at the Woolpack every pair of eyes is on him as being a possible murderer. He heatedly defends himself, and suggests that April (Amelia Flanagan) and Dylan (Fred Kettle) must know more about Ray’s death than he does because they were the ones who had the most to do with him.

But while Jai is struggling to defend himself, it’s clear that there are several people who are keeping secrets and have something to hide.

Is Jai the killer? And if he isn’t – who is?
