The Traitors aired unbelievably dramatic scenes on Thursday: a murder, a banishment and the beginnings of an almighty fight.

Amanda finally revealed her true identity as a former detective, driving BBC viewers at home to despair because she told one of the three Traitors in the Scottish castle.

The moment came shortly before her fate, and that of Reece’s, was left to chance at the roundtable, which resulted in the first-ever tied vote in the UK civilian version of the show.

Before her departure, Amanda told contestants: ‘I don’t need to go all dramatic. I think you all know what I’m going to say, take care of yourselves. I’m a Faithful.’

Taking to X to share their thoughts on Amanda’s decision to share her identity before her banishment, fans described it as a ‘perfect irony’ that the copper had failed to spot the Traitor suspect lurking right under her nose.

‘Feel a bit mortified for Amanda making this grand reveal to Rachel that she was a detective but not twigging that Rachel is a Traitor,’ wrote Ben.

‘Omg this is excellent TV,’ wrote Cath as Jemma asked: ‘Have we ever had traitors go against each other like this??? Turret is going to be so awkward.’

Dan described it as ‘arguably the BEST episode of this show so far,’ adding: ‘I don’t think I took a breath for the last 15 minutes. It’s CARNAGE.’

Other fans were in disbelief that Rachel and Fiona had been having such a public conversation about being Traitors, before they moved to the kitchen, since they would soon be able to chat freely in the turret.

The show has already proven to be a ratings smash, securing an average of 7.3million viewers during the prior episode, where viewers discovered the secret Traitor was daredevil Fiona.

According to the BBC, the episode peaked at 7.5m viewers, which is nearly a million more viewers compared to the first episode’s peak at 6.9m viewers on New Year’s Day.

The twist was introduced to the game at the start of the series, tasking the secret Traitor with providing a shortlist for the regular Traitors to pick to murder.

The Traitors returns to BBC One and iPlayer on Friday January 8 at 8pm.
