As West Ham suffered another nightmare results on Tuesday night against Nottingham Forest, Nuno Espirito Santo appears to be clinging onto his job by his fingernails.
The Hammers were beaten 2-1 at home by Forest, having gone ahead after 13 minutes and led until the 55th, before a Morgan Gibbs-White penalty at the death broke hearts in east London.
The defeat follows a 3-0 loss at Wolves and leaves West Ham seven points from safety, sitting 18th in the Premier League table, with Forest one place above them.
Espirito Santo was only appointed on September 27, replacing Graham Potter as West Ham boss, but he looks unlikely to last much longer in the role.
The 51-year-old has now taken charge of 16 games since arriving at the London Stadium, winning just two.
‘It’s not over yet. We keep on going,’ he said. ‘We need to keep believing and sticking together.
‘We have to keep going, keep believing and keep working. It is not over. Sometimes you have good moments and bad moments but you need to be resilient enough to understand this is the game.
‘We understand the fans’ frustration and the sadness – we are all the same.’
Attention is turning to who could replace Espirito Santo if he is to make a swift departure from West Ham and a former Hammers player is considered favourite to take the role.
Michael Carrick is currently fancied to be the next West Ham boss, despite also being linked to a role at another of his former clubs, Manchester United.
Carrick is out of work after being sacked as Middlesbrough manager at the end of last season, but has been linked with a number of big jobs.
After the dismissal of Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford, Carrick has reportedly held talks with the Red Devils about stepping in as caretaker manager until a permanent replacement is found.

However, the bookmakers believe West Ham could also make a move for the former England midfielder and snap him up ahead of Manchester United.

Former West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has also been touted as a possible replacement for Espirito Santo, having played for the club in 1996-97 and managed them from 2015-17.
The Croatian won 42 of his 111 games in charge, finishing 7th in his first season at the helm, with 62 points.
Recently axed bosses Amorim and Enzo Maresca are also thought to be possibilities, as is Frank Lampard, who started his playing career at West Ham and is now impressing as Coventry manager.

Whoever takes charge at West Ham, the bookmakers are very certain a change will come at the London Stadium before anywhere else in the top flight.
