You might’ve spent your whole festive break stuffing yourself with mince pies, Christmas pudding, and perhaps even some German stollen (and rightly so), but it’s not time to hang up your pudding socks just yet.
You’re either hanging onto your Christmas decorations for as long as you possibly can (or you might be firmly fed up with the entire fanfare), but M&S isn’t shedding any tears. It’s already moved firmly onto Easter.
Bakery fans, rejoice, because the beloved supermarket chain has revived a classic sweet treat with a twist. It’s time to welcome back the M&S Extremely Lemony Curd Filled Hot Cross Buns. Yes, they’re very sweet.
The brand has long been known for experimenting with established favourites, and last Easter, it went viral with its unique Dippy Egg Hot Cross Buns, which were filled with a gooey yellow and white chocolate filling.
This time, the fluffy, lemony versions are packed with an ‘oozy, zingy lemon curd filling,’ and have been described as an ‘egg-stra special’ treat.
A pack of four typically retails for £3.20, but the prices can vary depending on the store. And it’s safe to say that fans have been going wild online.
‘Don’t walk…run to M&S! Their hot cross buns are back! The lemon ones, though!’ @neemadoeslife wrote over on TikTok.
@ayrshirelass1 added that M&S lemon curd is an absolute ‘game-changer,’ noting that it’s ‘just like homemade.’ Meanwhile, @familymealswithailsa said that the buns were ‘jam-packed’ full of lemon and ‘very delicious.’
It’s not the only Easter bakery item M&S is now stocking on its shelves. The other variations of hot cross bun are also back, including the Extremely Cheesy Cheddar and Red Leicester and Extremely Chocolatey ones, which both cost £2.65 for a pack of four.
Last year, Metro was lucky enough to get an exclusive first try, and our resident food writer, Courtney Pochin, reckoned they were phenomenal.
She wrote: ‘If you’re a chocolate lover, you need this phenomenal treat in your life this Easter.
‘The cocoa buns are pillowy soft and rich, and the white chocolate filling is silky smooth but tastes a little custardy, making the whole thing oh so decadent. It’s like an indulgent pudding, but in a small snack-sized format.
‘For the best experience, grab a bun in both hands and tear it open before taking a bite, so you can really appreciate the gooey filling, which’s been double-injected into the bun to look like an egg with a perfect runny yellow yolk.
‘It’s hard work to resist the urge not to polish off all six in one sitting, but there’ll be zero judgement if you do – they really are that good!’
Has M&S already released its Valentine’s Day items?
That’s not all that’s been going on in the world of M&S of late.
Shoppers have spotted that the retailer has already started selling products for Valentine’s Day more than a month early, and the range includes a rather cheeky item.
Now, M&S has been known to sell naughty-looking sweet treats for the romantic holiday, from chocolate shaped like a long sausage dog that had people doing a double take, to cupid’s arrows that are akin to something from Ann Summers.
The team at M&S knew exactly what they were doing when they created a seasonal treat for February, known as ‘You Tickle My Pickle’.
The silly chocolate bar is, unsurprisingly, shaped like a pickle, but what is making people giggle is the way the pickle is laid out in a sultry pose – it’s very much giving ‘paint me like one of your French girls’.
