Everybody loves a good stunt. Whether it’s Coronation Street’s legendary tram demolishing half the street or Emmerdale’s infamous plane crash, fans go doolally over the explosion of secrets, lives and anything that happens to be in the blast radius that turns their favourite soap opera into an action movie for one night only.

That’s exactly what Corriedale promises. The much anticipated one-night stand where Coronation Street hops into bed with Emmerdale is set to see worlds collide on a lonely road in the dead of night, primed for the mother of all car-crashes.

Among the star-studded cast in the passenger seat for this nightmare ride is Jack P Shepherd, who plays Coronation Street’s David Platt. With over twenty-five years on the Cobbles, Jack’s seen his fair share of disaster and danger, and he’s got some surprising thoughts on who does it best…

‘In all the years we’ve watched Emmerdale stunts they’ve always gone down in history as being better than ours,’ Jack admits. ‘It was nice to work with them and show us how to do it!’

While Jack gushed about Emmerdale’s top-tier stunts, Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle star Danny Miller reflected on another difference between Corrie and the Dales.

‘They get free toast! There was an e-mail sent to Granada, and then I just got a response saying ‘out of office’, which was funny.’

Jack has also previously explained how Emmerdale stars learn their lines, revealing that it’s different to how they do it on the cobbles.

‘They have dictaphones or voice notes, so they will record the other person’s lines, and leave gaps.’

Speaking about what Corriedale entails, Jack continued: ‘There’s lots of car crashes, and that was right at the beginning of the episode as well. You’re right there straight away, seeing all these cars collide and everything. I only saw little bits of it on the night when we were filming.’

The soap event to end all soap events will follow major characters finding themselves on a quiet road at night for their own reasons – to keep secrets, protect loved ones, and stop their enemies.

With the help of Kit Green (Jacob Roberts, Carla has finally found freedom from the cursed cupboard prison of her captor Becky Swain (Amy Cudden), and now seeks to stop her love rival fleeing the country with the love of her life Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and her daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin). After Carla’s kidnapping ordeal at Becky’s hands, actress Alison King shares her expectations going into to this once-in-a-lifetime stunt.

‘I was thinking what on earth is this?!’ She laughs. ‘There were no words! It was just one thing after another. Obviously I hoped that Carla would be alive at the end of it. I was thinking thank goodness it was Duncan Foster directing. We knew as soon as Duncan was in charge, he’s got everything written out in his head, no matter what the weather threw at us, he made every frame by frame work. And he’s cool! We just had the trust in him.’

Both soaps have had their fair share of epic stunts. Boss Iain MacLeod explains what makes Corriedale unique.

‘Certainly in terms of the visuals, we were keen to give it a premium feel. Part of that is showing what we can do in terms of our visual aesthetic but most of what we do…we started off with a list that looked at the best things that could happen in a soap. Affair reveals, murder reveals, we literally had a list and thought wouldn’t it be great if we could have all of these?!’

Ian went on to share a glimpse of the final result, and made a chilling threat to the critics…

‘We had a good go! We wanted to showcase the best of our storytelling, our technical craft, the crew, everyone behind the scenes, it’s absolutely stunning. If anyone looks down their nose at the soap genre after watching that, I’ll write to them!’
