Marc Cucurella remains an injury doubt for Chelsea’s Premier League match against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Spain international missed Chelsea’s 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth on Tuesday with Malo Gusto filling in at left-back.
Enzo Maresca, who parted ways with Chelsea on New Year’s Day, claimed that Cucurella was absent due to a ‘small issue’ and was hopeful over his return for the trip to City.
Cucurella took part in training on Friday but caretaker manager Calum McFarlane revealed in the pre-match press conference that the 27-year-old still needs to be assessed ahead of the game against Pep Guardiola’s side.
‘With Marc it is positive and we will see with him,’ McFarlane said.
‘We’re undecided on that [whether he will play], I don’t have the full information on him as of yet.
‘Otherwise we don’t have any other updates on players at the moment.’
Meanwhile, McFarlane revealed he is not looking beyond the game against City in terms of his future as Chelsea’s caretaker manager.
‘I have spoken with the owners and directors and they have been really supportive,’ McFarlane said.
‘They have given us everything we need to be successful. There is nothing more we could ask for. They have been fully on board and we are all in it together.
‘The brief is to prepare the lads for Manchester City on Sunday and that’s all I see at this time. The team needs to be ready and prepared and our role is giving the players the support they need to go out and execute.’
