KANO — The Kano State Police Command has disclosed that it arrested a total of 3,081 suspects for various crimes between January 1 and December 31, 2025.

The State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, made the disclosure while highlighting key achievements of the command during the year.

CP Bakori said that upon assuming office on March 17, 2025, as the 47th Commissioner of Police in Kano State, he was briefed on several security challenges, including thuggery, clashes between farmers and herders, and threats of bandit infiltration.

“After critical assessments of the threats, a crime mapping exercise was conducted, resulting in robust, result-oriented actions, including enhanced community policing, intelligence-led operations, synergy with other security agencies, especially in joint border patrols, and the launch of ‘Operation Kukan Kura’,” he said.

According to him, these strategies have significantly reduced thuggery and mobile phone robbery, mitigated farmers-herders clashes through community-centric approaches, and curbed bandit infiltration along border local government areas.

From January 1 to December 31, 2025, the command arrested:

146 armed robbery suspects

50 kidnapping suspects

112 suspected drug dealers

85 suspected motor vehicle thieves

45 suspected tricycle thieves

83 suspected motorcycle thieves

154 suspected general thieves

56 suspected fraudsters

2,350 suspected thugs (Yan-Daba)

In addition, 14 kidnapped victims were rescued, and the command recovered various weapons and contraband, including nine AK-47 rifles, 13 English pistols, three pump-action rifles, 37 locally made revolver rifles, 26 fabricated guns, 198 rounds of live ammunition, and large quantities of suspected cannabis sativa.

CP Bakori commended the collaboration of all police divisions, area commands and tactical units in achieving these results and pledged that the strategies would be further strengthened in 2026 to ensure a safer and more secure Kano State.
