If there’s one person we know that will always have Carla Connor’s (Alison King) back, it’s Coronation Street legend Roy Cropper (David Neilson).
Their unlikely friendship was solidified during Hayley Cropper’s cancer battle and subsequent death. With both characters having had a deep love for the red-anorak-clad machinist, they soon turned to each other for support.
In the years since Hayley’s tragic passing, Roy has been a father-figure to Carla, acting as her confidante when she was first diagnosed with kidney disease, giving her a roof over her head during her struggle with psychosis and even walking her down the aisle at one of her (many) weddings.
In return, Carla has covered for Roy when his sleepwalking ended in arson and fought tooth and nail to get him out of prison when he was wrongly arrested for murder by none other than DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).
Though things are no doubt still slightly awkward at family dinners, Roy appears to have forgiven Lisa – or, at the very least, isn’t openly harbouring a grudge.
In fact, like many of us, he seems to be rooting for Carla and Lisa’s relationship to overcome the obstacles it is currently facing. Namely, Becky Swain (Amy Cudden).
Poor Roy has been caught in the middle of the Becky drama, and has been left uncomfortable at having to lie to his friends about her true identity.
If there is one thing Roy is comfortable with though, it’s dishing out advice to those he cares about and, despite everything, Lisa seems to have made it onto that list.
In a new spoiler video, Lisa is still fraught over Carla’s sudden radio silence.
Roy listens as she laments how in love they were before things went suddenly downhill, before pitching in with his own take on the situation.
Ever the protector, he assures her that Carla’s actions are likely just her own coping mechanism, and not a deliberate attempt to hurt the detective.
With Lisa considering giving up on the woman she believed was her soulmate, Roy urges her to reach out just one more time and let her know how she really feels.

Buoyed by Roy’s advice, Lisa picks up the phone, but is disheartened when the call is once again routed to Carla’s voicemail.
As she tells Carla that she is the love of her life, things are looking optimistic…
…Until she shatters our hearts all over again by insisting that it is time to let her go.
Lisa’s decision is made all the more painful by the fact that we as viewers know exactly why Carla has been no-contact – and it’s all meddling Becky’s fault.
Up until last night, Becky has had Carla locked up in a closet as part of her plan to win Lisa back.
However, yesterday’s instalment of the ITV soap saw Carla finally break free of her restraints and fight for freedom, pushing Becky into a coffee table and knocking her unconscious.
Things were looking hopeful for the factory boss, so why has she still not reached out to Lisa come New Year’s Day? What more could possibly transpire in the next few days?
