Serial killer John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) is back – but maybe not for long. His attempt to exact revenge on his brother Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and win back his ex-husband Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) isn’t exactly going swimmingly as the murderous army medic finds himself bound, gagged and staring down the barrel of a shotgun.

Suddenly, Aaron knocks Robert unconscious, and John’s heart soars to believe his dreams for a life with Aaron away from Emmerdale are about to coming true. Aaron confirms the sociopathic Sugden’s heart’s desire with a passionate kiss, reassuring John that all is well…

…but as soon as they’re outside, Aaron suddenly seizes the gun! John tries to grab it back, but Aaron gets the upper hand. He orders John at gunpoint to drive them to the police station.

Meanwhile in the flat, a groggy Robert regains consciousness. With blurred vision he staggers out of the flat in a panic. He finds Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) and pleads for help to save Aaron from John. Joe agrees to help. But can they catch up in time?

In the car, Aaron’s got the gun trained on John, but John is still firmly in control…and presses hard on the accelerator! Desperately fighting for his life, Aaron grabs the steering wheel, causing John to lunge for the gun, and their car veers dangerously out of control…

The cat’s out of the bag. The truth that Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) been hiding for months – the surrogate baby she’s been carrying for Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) and Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) is actually a result of a one night stand with Ross Barton (Michael Parr) – has finally been revealed. Now scorned husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) is taking his cheating wife on a revenge mission. Once he’s persuaded Charity to jump in his car, the rage churns within him as they drive along.

Their journey is so tense that Charity quickly becomes aware that she’s in danger…then Mack tackles the elephant in the car. Is it his baby?

Caught out, Charity finally concedes that the baby might not be Sarah’s and Mackenzie is utterly heartbroken not only at the magnitude of her lies, but the fact she would have let her granddaughter raise a baby that wasn’t hers.

He insists they go directly to the airport to tell Sarah the truth before she leaves for her honeymoon. Charity attempts to dissuade him but Mack won’t be reasoned with.

Meanwhile, Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Moira (Natalie J Robb) are taking Jacob and Sarah to Manchester Airport, when all of a sudden, they’re blinded by the car behind flashing its headlights – it’s Mack with Charity in the passenger seat. Cain stamps on the brakes, but it’s too late, and they watch in horror as Mack’s car smashes through a fence into a field…

Meanwhile...

Elsewhere, Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) is looking panicked and guilty as she furtively stashes something in a drawer. Has she just committed murder?

Laurel’s not the only one looking shady as a furtive Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) is making a secret call, while a shifty-looking Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock)  uneasily pings off a secret text. With April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) still missing, they’re both clearly worried about her. But what have they done?

Outside the vets, Ross pulls up in his vehicle and lo and behold, a dishevelled April is in his passenger seat. She’s okay! When April enters the house, it’s a joyous family reunion and an emotional Marlon is awash with relief to think his daughter is finally free of the shadowy influence of Ray and Celia’s criminal empire. Whilst worried Rhona asks if further repercussions from Ray or Celia are likely, but April’s answer is suspiciously noncommittal. Did she ‘take care’ of Ray and Celia?

Becky vs Carla

Meanwhile, Coronation Street legend Carla Connor’s (Alison King) got problems of her own as Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) finally tracks her down, and they set off in pursuit of the diabolical Becky Swain (Amy Cudden)  before she can swoop Lisa (Vicky Myers) and Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) out of the country.

But Kit’s got another mission to complete as he finds himself on the tail of the wanted fugitive John Sugden. When Carla calls Lisa, Becky gets distracted… and the car comes screeching to a halt. It’s a race against time to save the lives of those trapped at the crash site, but not everyone will make it.

All this chaos comes with an extra helping of mystery. While a queue of traffic forms behind the crash site, a small van pulls up. The driver glances in the back at a terrified woman, her wrists and ankles bound. Who is she?
