John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) has confirmed the details of his revenge plan against his brother Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) in Emmerdale, and they’re pretty explosive…

Crazed medic John disappeared from the village in the autumn, going on the run after having his crimes exposed to everyone.

John has apparently been in Rotterdam and France, but made his way back to England at some point over the winter.

The character returned to our screens on Christmas Day, hellbent on destroying Robert so he could be with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).

And he’s decided he needs someone else’s help with his plan as well.

Up Next

Robert’s prison husband Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) also made his way back to the Dales, but is now being held hostage by John as part of his scheme.

In tonight’s episode, John headed into the village to spy on Robert and Aaron. Prior to this, he was hiding in the woods, watching his nephew Harry play football alone. The ball was booted into the trees, which meant the youngster found his uncle watching him.

John explained that soon enough, he’ll be back with him, Aaron and Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins), and the place Robert is going will be better for everyone. John wasn’t going to hurt Harry, and the oblivious boy failed to mention that he had seen his uncle when Vic found him a few moments later.

As Harry, Vic, Robert and Aaron played football, John watched, his fury growing that Robert is living the life he desperately wanted.

Back in the abandoned room, John explained to Kev that he’s been googling how to make an IED on his phone, with every intention of making one. When the bomb goes off, he wants Robert to be in the vicinity of it, and the prep he’s doing at the moment will ensure Kev gets the blame in the aftermath.

Both Kev and John are unhinged, but even this moment left Kev uncomfortable.

John hopes that his plan will mean 2026 ‘begins with a bang’, but will he succeed?

It’s very possible this will assist in setting the foundations for Corriedale, which will air next Monday.

Reflecting on the peril that lies ahead for Robron in the lead up to the crossover and during the event itself, star Ryan Hawley told Metro: ‘It starts off full throttle! The events of it afterwards are going to change both shows forever. It’s high stakes. It’s a big spectacle and very exciting.’

‘With the introduction of Kev, it’s gone from a love triangle to a love square!’, Oliver added.

‘You’ve got so much jeopardy involved, everyone wants their own individual selfish thing from that square. It’s a messy situation.’

Oliver summed the episode up by calling it an ‘iconic mash up’, while Ryan said it’s ‘a one off occasion that’ll never happen again. It’s a celebration of soap, I think it’ll be brilliant.’
