Abia Govt to revive Aba textile Mills to create more opportunities

Abia State government has announced plans to revive the Aba textile Mills and other moribund key industries to create more employment opportunities in the state.

Governor Alex Otti , who disclosed this at Ngwa High School, Aba, during the 2025 Ngwa Day, explained that he is prioritising job creation and security in the State through the revival of moribund industries to sustain the State’s ongoing transformation.

He also disclosed that, he is currently discussing with a  Lebanese company to revitalise Aba Textile Mill, adding that, another discussion is ongoing about international glass industry and Metallurgical plant,both in Aba.

The Governor enjoined the people to remain patient, assuring them of more transformations across different sectors as the government works to reposition the State.

He said;”We are addressing unemployment by reviving key industries in the State.My administration is prioritising job creation and security in the State through the revival of moribund industries to sustain the State’s ongoing transformation. I’m currently in discussions with the Lebanese to revitalise Aba Textile Mills. Another discussion is ongoing about international glass industry and Meturlogical plant.

The Ngwa day 2025 witnessed the installation of the pioneer Attorney General of the state, Chief Theo Nkire,as the leader of the Ukwa Ngwa nation. Nkire replaces the former holder of the position, Elder Emmanuel Adaelu, who died a year ago.

The Governor commended Nkire’s choice as the newly appointed leader of the Ngwa nation, and congratulated him on his emergence, describing it as a well-deserved honour and expressed his full support for the decision.

He further commended Ngwa leaders for participating in the cultural day celebration and stressed the need to preserve Ngwa cultural heritage and used the opportunity to disclose that the first leader of the Ngwa people, Chief Jaja Wachukwu, would be honoured on January 1st, 2026 by the state government with a celebration of his 108th posthumous birthday at Nsulu.

The Chairman of the Occasion, Chief Orjinta Alala, said the Ukwa Ngwa people decided to select a leader who would speak for them and articulate their collective position on issues of concern, as they had observed one year of mourning for their leader, late Adaelu, and had now resolved to appoint Nkire as their new leader.

Senator Nkechi Nworgu and other dignatories jointly expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for finding time out of his very busy schedule to personally attend the occasion.

They described the Governor’s presence as a strong show of leadership, humility and respect for the people, and lauded him for his numerous achievements across the State.

In his remarks,a former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Chief Chidi Ajaegbu, while describing the event as an opportunity for the Ngwa people to showcase their rich cultural heritage, commended the organisers for its success.
