Citizens must remain at heart of policymaking, H M tells Majlis A’Shura

Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik met the Chairman of the Majlis A’Shura and members of the Majlis A’Shura Office at Al Barakah Palace on Thursday.

At the outset of the meeting, His Majesty praised Allah the Almighty for the blessings and abundance bestowed upon Oman, its loyal people and residents. His Majesty prayed to Allah to grant continued prosperity to the sultanate, bless all with health and well-being, and crown all sincere efforts with success and guidance.

His Majesty commended the progress achieved by the shura, noting the development of its working mechanisms and the growing effectiveness it has demonstrated in fulfilling its responsibilities. He said this progress contributes to strengthening national participation and aligns with the requirements of comprehensive development.

His Majesty underscored the importance of the views and proposals put forward by the shura in advancing national efforts and supporting the state’s strategic directions in a manner that serves the public interest and benefits citizens.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the government and the shura, describing it as a fundamental partner within the state’s framework of governance. He noted that the Basic Law of the State and the Council of Oman Law have granted the shura broad powers to carry out its mandated roles. His Majesty stressed the need to further strengthen this partnership through unified teamwork, shared responsibility and prioritising the interests of the nation and its citizens above all else.

His Majesty also emphasised the role of the shura in raising public awareness of existing challenges, as well as medium- and long-term goals, and the measures and decisions taken to achieve these. He highlighted the importance of safeguarding national achievements and gains already realised.

Following the meeting, Hassan Ahmed Mohammed al Nabhani, a member of the Majlis A’Shura Office, said the session went beyond a formal audience, evolving into an in-depth and wide-ranging discussion on key national priorities.

Nabhani said the meeting addressed several vital issues, including the employment of researchers, the state of the national economy and matters that directly affect citizens’ daily lives. He noted that His Majesty demonstrated a comprehensive and detailed understanding of the state’s affairs, engaging with issues down to the finest details felt by the public.

He added that discussions covered employment figures, recruitment opportunities and mechanisms to address existing challenges, with a number of solutions and proposals reviewed during the session.

According to Nabhani, His Majesty stressed that citizens must remain at the heart of policymaking, underscoring the importance of integrated action between state institutions and the government to serve the public interest effectively.

He said His Majesty expressed openness to the proposals presented by the shura, emphasising that its members should act as a key support to the government in advancing national objectives. His Majesty also commended the maturity reflected in recent shura discussions, urging members to focus on issues that contribute to the nation’s progress.

The meeting was attended by Dr Hamad bin Said al Aufi, Head of the Private Office, Sheikh al Fadhl bin Mohammed al Harthy, Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, and Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs.
