Christmas is one of the few times of the year that you can lie on the sofa watching TV for hours on end and not feel guilty about it. If anything, it’s actively encouraged. So it comes as no surprise that in the week leading up to the big day, various Netflix hits have been notching up millions of views. And that includes one popular series that has racked up a mindblowing 22.5 million views in one week across all five of its seasons, and a comedy featuring a British icon enjoying its second week in the top spot. Coming in at number 10 is the second season of Stranger Things. The first batch of episodes of season five of this supernatural horror were released at the end of November, and previous seasons have also found their way into the Netflix top 10 as fans refresh their memories. After all, it has been three and a half years since the season 4 premiere, so many viewers are feeling a little out of touch with the happenings in Hawkins. Season 2 of Stranger Things first landed on Netflix in October 2017, and saw Will, Mike, Eleven and friends grapple with the lingering effects of the Upside Down. 9. Dave Chappelle: The Unstoppable… – 3,300,000 views

Comedy icon Dave Chappelle’s Netflix special landed in the top 10 chart just two days after its release, which is impressive work. The ‘no-holds-barred’ show has proved somewhat controversial, however, receiving a disappointing 43% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Decider critic Sean L. McCarthy criticised the special, writing in his review: ‘For all of the humor and humanity he displays both in his closer as well as the end credits, there’s unfortunately a half-hour full of unnecessary cruelty and juvenile jabs masquerading as jokes to sit through first.’ (Picture: Netflix)

Stranger Things season 1 enjoyed its 18th week in the Netflix top 10 charts following the release of season 5 last month. The first series sets up a supernatural web leading to the uncovering of secret government exploits, which follows the disappearance of a young boy named Will Byers in Hawkins, Indiana. Will’s friends, his mother Joyce and a police chief, Hopper, try to find out what happened to him and, along the way, they encounter Eleven, an escapee child test subject who is attempting to evade her former captors. Slightly higher up the Netflix chart, pipping season one to the post by 100,000 views, is Stranger Things season 3. This instalment sees the Hawkins crew attempt to defeat the Mind Flayer, a hive-mind, shadow-like being from the Upside Down that controls victims. In the final episode, Max’s brother Billy is revealed to have been possessed and forced to build a ‘Spider Monster’ to invade Earth. A new gate is opened by the Russians at Hawkins’ Starcourt Mall, which hosts the dramatic showdown at the end of the series. (Picture: Netflix/Kobal/Shutterstock)

Yep, it’s Stranger Things again, with season 4 adding an additional 3.9 million views to the popular show’s already impressive total. This season is set eight months after the events at Starcourt Mall, and Eleven, Will, Jonathan and Joyce have moved to California to escape the supernatural happenings in Indiana. Back in Hawkins, the crew has drifted apart. But it’s only a matter of time before the gang is reunited against their biggest threat yet – a monster/human hybrid called Vecna. Oh, and this is also the season that saw Kate Bush’s 1985 hit, Running Up That Hill, go utterly viral 37 years after it was originally released. (Picture: Netflix/Everett/Shutterstock)

5. Sean Combs: The Reckoning – 6,300,000 views

Released just months after a high-profile court case, where Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was handed a 50-month prison sentence, this documentary is in the Netflix chart for the third consecutive week, previously holding the top spot. It explores Combs’ stratospheric rise to fame in the 90s, thanks to the success of his Bad Boy Entertainment label, and his later sexual misconduct allegations. It’s also produced by 50 Cent, with whom Diddy has a decades-long feud. (Picture: Netflix)

4. Stranger Things: Season 5 – 8,200,000 views

Stranger Things: Season 5
Thought that was the last of Stranger Things on this list? Nope, season five is, of course, the most-watched instalment of the supernatural horror. The first four episodes of the last ever series were released in November and are set around 18 months after the events of series four. Eleven is in hiding, Holly Wheeler is Vecna’s latest victim, and Will discovers that he can control Demogorgons. The 8.2 million views bring Stranger Things’ total viewing number for the week before Christmas to a whopping 22.5 million. And there’ll be many more to come, as Season 5, Volume 2 was released on Christmas Day, and the finale, with a run time of over two hours, will be landing on Netflix on New Year’s Eve. 3. Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua – 10,900,000 views

Jake Paul v Anthony Joshua - Press Conference
This highly anticipated boxing match saw YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul take on heavyweight powerhouse Anthony Joshua. It was streamed live from the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, on Netflix on December 19 and is still available to stream, notching up almost 11 million views in just a couple of days. We won’t reveal here exactly what went down, but the match was an ugly watch that bordered on the farcical at times. The referee lost his patience at the end of the fourth round, stepping in to say ‘fans did not pay to see this’. (Picture: Megan Briggs/Getty Images for Netflix)

Emily is back, to the delight of her many fans, but she’s not in Paris this time. Instead, Emily in Paris season 5 kicks off in Rome, where Lily Collins’ titular character has found love with Italian Marcello. And it’s not the only new romance, as Mindy (Ashley Park) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) share some surprising intimate moments too. Metro’s very own TV reporter Charlotte Minter gave the latest series four stars, saying it left her ‘optimistic, charmed and ready for more.’ (Picture: Giulia Parmigiani/Netflix)

1. Man vs Baby – 14,600,000 views

Rowan Atkinson as Trevor Bingley holds a baby bottle and a baby.
Claiming the top spot for the second week in a row is this festive-themed comedy starring British legend Rowan Atkinson. The actor has reprised his role as Trevor Bingley, first seen in Man vs Bee, and has swapped house-sitting for working as a school caretaker until he lands the job of looking after a London penthouse over Christmas. He’s not alone, however, as an abandoned baby has fallen into his care after being left behind at the school nativity. Metro TV reporter Rebecca Cook gave the mini-series three stars in her review, writing: ‘Stick it on this Christmas and you will at least laugh more than you ever did at that hateful bee, even if you do come away craving an out-of-this-world expensive glass of Dom and wondering why Atkinson revisited this character as opposed to any of his other better ones.’ (Picture: Netflix)
