Kate Middleton is always a fashion icon, but some of her best looks often come at Christmas time — and this year is no different.
As is tradition, the Royal Family gathered together today for the church service at St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham, Norfolk.
The Princess of Wales sported a tartan coat, in a warm brown hue, for the occasion, accessorising this statement piece with a tonal brown Juliette Botterill hat, Cartier trinity earrings, and a silk scarf that looks to be the same one she wore on Christmas Day back in 2014.
Her elegant ensemble is characteristically festive, but it’s that Blazé Milano coat which holds a special level of significance for Kate, 43.
Back in January, she donned it for her first engagement of 2025; a visit to the hospital where she received cancer treatment and later announced she was in remission.
Alongside their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, Kate and William were all smiles, marking the end of a more positive year for the family.
Their Christmas Day celebrations come after the Princess of Wales and her daughter Charlotte’s Christmas piano duet aired last night.
The mother and daughter sat together to play a piece by Scottish composer Erland Cooper, as part of Kate’s annual carol concert, broadcast on ITV1.
It follows a period of change for the Waleses, who moved into their eight-bedroom ‘forever home’, Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park, just a few weeks ago.
However, as they do each year, the family-of-five travelled up to Norfolk for the festive period, walking to church to greet a crowd of Royal fans — some of whom had queued for hours to catch their arrival.
Kate has been attending the Christmas Day church service every year since marrying Prince William in 2011.
She’s worn a variety of stylish ensembles for the occasion, often opting for structured outerwear in seasonal jewel tones like a Hobbs burgundy coat in 2016, and a deep blue Alexander McQueen coat in 2023.
Princess Catherine also often favours tartan, sporting the pattern on various occasions. Perhaps the most memorable was her Miu Miu coat worn in 2017, while pregnant with Prince Louis.
Last Christmas, the service was one of the royal’s few public appearances, after cancer treatment saw her withdraw from official engagements for most of the year.
In her signature tailored style, Kate wore a dark forest green Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen coat, accessorised with a tartan scarf and heeled black boots.
But it was her hat – a beret by Gina Foster – that got people talking.
Body language expert Judi James said Catherine’s decision to wear the hat at the end of a challenging year for the Royal Family, following her and King Charles’s cancer diagnoses, revealed the Princess’s true feelings about returning to the spotlight.
She told the Mirror: ‘Kate’s small beret allowed a full view of her face, which in turn showed off that authentic, congruent, dimpled smile rather than her perfect royal version.’
Judi added that Kate’s eye contact with well-wishers and her ‘energetic pace’ as she walked hand in hand with her youngest child, Prince Louis, showed how proud she was to be out with her family again.
