Kiss frontman Gene Simmons had choice words during an appearance on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, as he answered questions about meeting with Donald Trump.

The 76-year-old lead singer of the glam rockers dialled into the show, having set up a stock studio background on the call, and spoke about receiving a performing arts award from the US president.

Ed Balls and Charlotte Hawkins were hosting in the ITV studio when they spoke to Simmons, kicking off the chat with a question about whether Trump is a Kiss fan.

Hawkins then went on to note that Trump ‘divides opinion’, in what might be an understatement, and asked whether Simmons gets involved in politics.

‘You mean because England doesn’t have polarised politics?’ he questioned. ‘My recommendation to everybody is, take a deep breath. The sun is coming up tomorrow.’

He then digressed into an extended metaphor about the £1 coin, saying: ‘You love the British pound. It’s so beautiful.

‘But it’s worth noting that each side of the pound looks completely different and has no relation to the other side. But if you put a pound on the table, each side can really say they’re a pound. You don’t have to validate by the other side.’

He then concluded: ‘So everybody just shut your piehole. It’s going to be okay. Just relax.’

Elsewhere in the interview, Balls asked whether Trump had ever donned the iconic Kiss make-up and attended a concert.

‘Not so much that part, but I know for a fact the president’s been a fan for many, many years,’ Simmons replied, then going on to share details from his meeting with Trump earlier this year, during which he received a Kennedy Centre Honour.

‘I happen to have first spent time with the president before he became political, back in 2008, something like that. So we spent a long time talking about various issues.’

Simmons recently spoke on CNN about his face time alone with Trump, telling the news programme: ‘I met the president and on and off for years and years, decades before he entered politics.

‘The conversation was what human beings do. How‘s the family? How are the kids? And, you know, all that stuff. It‘s not always about politics.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am.
