Woman allegedly bites police officer after disturbing 'the King's Peace'

A Canberra woman has been charged after being accused of biting a police officer on the leg.

Police were called to a house in Moncrieff in the city's north at around 8.30am yesterday after reports of a disturbance between a 44-year-old woman and her partner.

Responding officers spoke to the pair, who both entered a written agreement to "keep the King's Peace" for 24 hours.

Under Australian law, maintaining the King's Peace is essentially an agreement to maintain public law and order.

Less than three hours later, police returned to the same house after it was reported the woman was allegedly acting aggressively.

The woman was placed under arrest after officers decided a breach of the peace had occurred.

During the arrest, the woman allegedly became aggressive again, biting one of the arresting officers on the leg.

The officer is not believed to have suffered any injury as a result of the alleged bite.

The woman was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and two counts of resisting a territory public official.

She was due to face the ACT Magistrates Court today.
