Ariana Grande has been hailed for her ‘absolutely spot on’ impression of fellow pop star Katy Perry while hosting Saturday Night Live.
The 32-year-old Wicked star, who shared a rare post about her boyfriend Ethan Slater earlier this week after rumours circulated that they had split, showed off her comedic skills in a number of skits throughout the night.
However, it was the singer’s impression of Katy in a sketch centered around Christmas duets that went viral online.
Singing alongside another SNL cast member, who impersonated Bob Dylan, the duo collaborated on a holiday track.
As well as wearing a long dark wig, Ariana also sported an astronaut costume in reference to Katy’s controversial Blue Origin space flight earlier this year.
Taking to social media, viewers praised Ariana’s ‘insane’ impersonation, with @Glitchymagic writing: ‘Ariana’s vocal control is unreal. Spot on Katy, but with that signature Grande flair.’
@sabsupernova added: ‘I will literally never get over Ariana’s ability to sound like anyone she wants.’
@BakshiSoumajit also claimed that she did the impression ‘so accurately’, while @Badlil called it ‘insane’.
Meanwhile, some fans claimed that the pair could potentially fall out over the skit, as @GloryDoge wrote: ‘Shots fired 😆’
@eyup_io similary said: ‘Imagine the look on Katy’s face… Can’t wait to see the chaos unfold.’
Joined by an all-female crew, Katy flew into space on an 11-minute flight on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin Space Mission.
Many questioned the environmental impact of what some have called a ‘vanity flight’, with Katy getting most of the criticism.
Responding to the criticism, however, Katy said she felt like a ‘human piñata’ in reply to a social media post which was condemning the hurtful comments.
She wrote: ‘I love you guys and have grown up together with you and am so excited to see you all over the world this year! Please know I am ok, I have done a lot work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me.’
Last year, Katy spoke about Ariana in an Extra TV interview and explained how she has supported her ever since her debut.
Discussing their friendship in the industry, she said: ‘This girl is the best singer of our generation, so I don’t say that lightly.’
Back in 2015, Ariana showcased her number of different impressions on a game called Wheel Of Musical Impressions on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.
She sang as Celine Dion, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
Last year on SNL, she also made headlines after imitating Jennifer Coolidge in a hilarious skit about Maybelline makeup.
