This legendary Jane Austen book has seen a number of iconic adaptations, but one great version is now available to stream on Netflix.

While enjoying a glass of sherry, or a cup of Earl Grey tea, you might fancy watching a quintessentially English romantic drama.
What better fit, than the 2005 film adaptation of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, which is back on Netflix today.
The platform teased it on social media yesterday, leaving fans guessing which drama they were adding to their catalogue.

Starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, this film came to be seen as a beloved take on the 1813 regency romance novel.
It scores highly on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 90% score on the Popcornmeter and boasts impressive reviews with one critic (Don Shanahan) calling it ‘stately, emotional, sumptuous, and perfect in every way.’
Elizabeth Bennett (Knightley) faces increasing pressure from her family to marry. She’s the second eldest daughter of five Bennett sisters – all of whom aren’t wedded.
Then, when Elizabeth is introduced to Mr Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen), things start to slowly change.
However, their romance isn’t without its complications. Darcy’s behaviour and brooding nature at first appears rude and misunderstandings mark the course of their relationship.
Critic Casey Cipriani noted that Macfadyen’s ‘natural glumness […] actually makes him quite the perfect Darcy.’
Their slow-burning romance provides the backdrop to this beautifully shot film, set in the English countryside and featuring Derbyshire’s Chatsworth House as the iconic Pemberely.
It was directed by Joe Wright, who Alan French on Rotten Tomatoes claims ’embraces the tactility of touch, the energy of chaos, and the beauty of stolen glances.’
20 years since its release as a film, and 250 years since Austen was born, the story is still being reimagined.
British author, journalist, and screenwriter, Dolly Alderton is behind the new Netflix adaptation, alongside Heartstopper’s Euros Lyn as director.
An official release date hasn’t been confirmed, but first looks at the cast were revealed earlier this year.
Olivia Colman, Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden are amongst those cast in the lead roles, with actors like Jamie Demetriou, Louis Partridge and Rufus Sewell joining them.
