Pictured here is Ieuan Crump A "sadistic" trainee medic who sexually assaulted two women patients during bogus tests was jailed for nine years today(thurs). Trainee health worker Ieuan Crump, 27, made a "no entry sign" to hang on the wall of his hospital room while he carried out the fake tests so he could abuse his victims. A court heard both women were "in pain" when they were being treated by Crump who carried out "unnecessary tests" in order to target them. Crump sexually assaulted the women by touching their vaginas, breasts and bottoms while they were being treated at an NHS hospital. Prosecutor Matthew Roberts said: "This was the most egregious, grotesque abuse of trust by somebody in a position of responsibility. "The defendant targeted both these women in the sense they were young, vulnerable, of a similar physical appearance and in obvious pain." He said both women had also been treated with opiate-based painkiller Oramorph which could lead to confusion when Crump began the fake tests. Mr Roberts said: "The defendant is sadistic and calculating. He knew these women were in considerable pain but notwithstanding targeted them for his own sexual pleasure." Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard Crump's first victim came on to the ward at the Grange University Hospital after having her appendix removed and complained of swelling in her stomach. But Crump used a bladder scanner to examine her bladder and groin - before taking her into a room alone where he inserted a catheter into her - something he was not trained to do. Crump unnecessarily asked the women to pull her shorts down and put her legs up when he touched her inappropriately. The second woman had been suffering with a bowel condition when Crump carried out an "intimate" vaginal examination and began examining her bottom. In a victim personal statement the woman said Crump's crimes had led to her attempting suicide on three separate occasions and had been left suffering from PTSD and anxiety. She said: "I just wanted my life to be over so I did not have to relive what was in my head about what Ieuan did to me." The other woman said she suffered flashbacks of "vivid depictions of Ieuan Crump sexually assaulting me." She added: "I struggle at just the thought of being in a room with an unknown male. The whole matter has made me untrusting of men. "It's made me think that if a healthcare worker can commit such a crime then any man can be a threat." Crump was found guilty of nine charges of sexual assault, including three counts of assault by penetration following a retrial. Marian Lewis, defending, said Crump had previously worked as a St Johns Ambulance volunteer and helped in his community before the offences. Judge Vanessa Francis jailed Crump, of Gilfach, Caerphilly, for nine years and told he must serve at least two thirds of that term behind bars. He must also sign the sex offenders register for life and was issued with restraining orders banning him from contacting his victims. Speaking after the sentence, Michael Jenkin of the Crown Prosecution Service said: ???Ieuan Crump exploited his position of power over two women when they were at their most vulnerable, for his own sexual gratification. ???His actions were an extreme breach of trust which was calculated and deliberate. ???The courage shown by the two women in giving their evidence to the jury allowed the Crown Prosecution Service to present a strong case, resulting in these convictions, and we thank them for their support.??? An NHS worker has been jailed for nine years after sexually assaulting patients in phoney ‘medical examiniations’

Ieuan Crump, 26, assaulted the two women while he was working at the Grange Hospital in Cwmbran.

Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard he carried out fake and ‘entirely unnecessary’ examinations for his own sexual gratification.

Crump, of Gilfach, Caerphilly, denied the allegations, but a jury found him guilty of nine counts of sexual assault, including three counts of assault by penetration.

The offences happened while Crump was conducting scans and examinations as part of his role as a healthcare support worker in August 2021.

She said: ‘The main emotional effect of the sexual assaults has been the negative effect on my mental health.

‘I felt there was no way to escape the intrusive thoughts of what he did to me, which led me to try to take my life on three occasions.

‘I just wanted my life to be over, so I didn’t have to relive what was in my head, of what Ieuan did to me. I feel very uncomfortable when I am treated by anyone in the medical profession, as I now trust no one, least of all medics.

‘I have been living in a nightmare since this time… I feel like I’m a shell of the person that I used to be.’

Another woman said Crump’s actions had made her ‘untrusting’ of men.

She said: ‘It has made me think that, if a healthcare worker can commit such an act, then any man is a threat. I do not want to be treated by the NHS or go back to the Grange.’

Addressing Crump, Judge Vanessa Francis said: ‘You are someone who has effectively given your life to healthcare services… Who was dedicated and seemed to have your whole future ahead.

‘The fact of the matter was that you were also someone who was quite socially isolated, someone who perhaps found it difficult to fit in with others, and someone who displayed a certain amount of arrogance.

‘Both young women involved in the treatment that you meted out have been utterly devastated by what you did to them.’

The judge said he examined both young women’s bodies, which wasn’t required, and didn’t wear gloves because he wanted ‘skin-to-skin’ contact.

‘There is a breach of trust in this case, which is of the most extreme kind; you manipulated extremely vulnerable women, in significant amounts of pain,’ she added.

Judge Francis sentenced Crump to nine years in prison and said he would be barred from working with children and vulnerable people in the future.
