Leonardo DiCaprio just sat down for a rare interview with none other than Jennifer Lawrence, and viewers are all talking about one ‘uncomfortable’ moment.

The Don’t Look Up co-stars sat opposite one another for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, and discussed their careers including current and future projects.

Having told Leonardo, 51, his new movie One Battle After Another was her ‘favourite’ she’s ever seen, Hunger Games star Jennifer, 35, commented that she ‘really loved seeing [him] as a dad’ in the film.

The black comedy follows Leonardo as Bob, a washed up revolutionary who is permanently stoned, and his daughter Willa as they survive off grid before the latter goes missing.

Then Jennifer made an unusual comment which has fans’ jaws on the floor.

‘I’m so sad you don’t have a teenage daughter. You look great with one,’ Jennifer said, as Leonardo tilted his head back, licked his bottom lip and smiled, in a reaction some people are calling uncomfortable.

‘That awkward giggle from Leo. JL is a legend for making him feel this uncomfortable,’ wrote mskingaling on X, while @DevsAdvocate agreed thathe seems ‘uncomfortable’ at the comment.

Others called Jennifer’s comment ‘shady’, given Leonardo’s reputation for dating women just a few years older than teenagers, with the 2019 viral graph suggesting his cut off point is 25 years old.

Does Leonardo DiCaprio really not date anyone older than 25?

The women listed on Reddit user u/TrustLittleBrother’s graph start at Gisele Bundchen, who he dated between the ages of 18 and 23 (that’s her, not him – he was 25), then Bar Rafaeli, who was 20-25 when they were together before slitting in 2010.

He had a short fling with Blake Lively, who in 2011, at the time, was 23, before moving into Erin Heatherton, who was 22.

For two years he dated Toni Garrn, who was 20-21 at the time, before reaching another age limit with Kelly Rohrbach, who was 25 at the time of their smooches.

Nine Agdal reached the limit in 2017.

He then dated Camila Morrone for five years, with sources revealing in August 2022 they had broken up. She was 25 at the time.

However, post graph-gate, Leonardo has somewhat bucked the trend, albeit by just one year.

In 2023, news came that Vittoria Ceretti, who is now 26, and Leonardo were dating, and they still appear to be going strong.

In the comments section on the video, Perez Hilton said, ‘Shady!!’, while another fan @fashionscandals said Jennifer was ‘digging’ with her words.

Many people also called the Silver Linings Playbook actress a ‘professional troll’, while @henreiy wrote: ‘Crying real tears this is A+ trolling by Jennifer Lawrence. The stare Leonardo DiCaprio gave her while slightly tilting his head back and licking his bottom lip spoke volumes. He was annoyed.’

However, some people, including thegroverfilm, thought the reaction from fans was over the top and said Jennifer’s comment was ‘genuine’ and Leonardo actually likes her a lot, as the rest of the interview showed.

Others commended Jennifer for getting Leonardo to open up, as AuntieFA said, ‘This was the only time I’ve ever seen even a glimpse of Leo’s real personality,’ with many others echoing this sentiment.

A body language expert's view

Body language expert Judi James tells Metro:

‘There are two layers to this comment from Lawrence: firstly, a very personal one that would not be seen to work if the boot was on the other foot when it comes to anyone with children calling out someone without them. Lawrence makes her point with confidence and even a look of authority here and her ‘I’m so sad’ in this context would appear patronising.

‘But then there’s the context of it being a joke like many others that DiCaprio is the butt of, even from the stage at awards ceremonies. He starts to listen with his brows raised and his eyes wide as he chuckles in good-humoured anticipation. But as Lawrence adds to her lines, there is a gesture of what looks like awkwardness from him as his tongue is seen crossing the front of his mouth before he sucks his lower lip inward. His eyes close in a cut-off and his lips pull down at the outer corners although the deep chuckle suggests a desire to register ongoing good humour.

Elsewhere in the interview, The Revenant actor Leonardo revealed he’s ‘never’ seen Titanic, while Jennifer – who starred this year in Die My Love – admitted the last time she watched her own film back was when she was ‘really drunk’ and she put on American Hustle.

‘I was like, I wonder if I’m good at acting. I don’t remember what the answer was,’ Jennifer revealed, before quipping: ‘I’m going to have them cut that out.’

Having previously worked together in Netflix’s Don’t Look Up, Jennifer and Leonardo are due to reunite again in the Martin Scorsese adaptation of Peter Cameron’s novel What Happens At Night.

While Leonardo has long worked with Scorsese on six films, this will be Causeway star Jennifer’s first time, so she asked for some advice.

‘He’s going to give you a lot of film references,’ Leonardo answered. ‘They usually come in the form of a DVD. And if you don’t have a DVD player, get one….

‘He’ll have screenings sometimes for just one sequence in a movie. If there’s something that he wants you to capture from an old film or the pacing of something, you might have a screening of a whole film just for a specific scene that he wants to see.

‘We might see some Japanese ghost films for reference, just to get the tone of it. You’re going to have an amazing time.’
