‘Sleepy Joe was, by far, the worst President in American history. Taking office as a result of the most corrupt Election ever seen in the United States.’
This may look like one of Donald Trump’s Truth Social rambles, but it’s an actual plaque in the White House, placed below former President Joe Biden’s official portrait.
As part of his ‘upgrades’ to the White House, the Presidential ‘hall of fame’, which features portraits of past leaders, has had new plaques installed.
Under Barack Obama’s, one reads: ‘As President, he passed the highly ineffective ‘Unaffordable’ Care Act, resulting in his party losing control of both Houses of Congress, and the Election of the largest House Republican majority since 1946.’
For Bill Clinton, Trump boasted about how he terminated the North American Free Trade Agreement, and added a line about his victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said: ‘The plaques are eloquently written descriptions of each President and the legacy they left behind. As a student of history, many were written directly by the President himself.’
The new plaques weren’t all completely corrosive, however. Ronald Reagan’s portrait read: ‘Known as ‘The Great Communicator,’ he was re-elected in a landslide in 1984, and left office with high approval.
‘He was a fan of President Donald J. Trump long before President Trump’s Historic run for the White House. Likewise, President Trump was a fan of his!’
Since re-entering the office in January, Trump has made sweeping changes to the White House.
In October, Trump’s decision to demolish the historic East Wing of the White House angered many Americans, as he made way for the new construction.
If his plans for the 90,000 square foot ‘gilded ballroom’ come to fruition with the new architectural firm Shalom Baranes, who has renovated other government buildings, the building would dwarf the White House, which is only 55,000 square feet.
For more than 100 years, the East Wing served as the traditional base of operations for the first lady.
Some changes have been minor. The administration ditched the ‘wasteful’ Calibri font used by the State Department for Times New Roman.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the ‘informal’ Calibri font, which was introduced in 2023 in a bid to help make documents more readable for those with disabilities, was being replaced.
Rubio said in a memo that Times New Roman would be reintroduced to ‘restore decorum and professionalism to the department’s written work’.
‘Switching to Calibri achieved nothing except the degradation of the department’s official correspondence,’ he added.
