A woman is in hospital under police guard after a suspicious house fire in Melbourne's south-east left two men fighting for life.

The fire tore through a share house on Sunburnt Circuit in Clyde North about 1.45am today.

Neighbours claim they saw a man and woman fighting in the driveway minutes before the home went up in flames.

Two men in their 40s are fighting for life after the fire tore through the Clyde North home.

Two men aged 46 and 44 were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A 29-year-old woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening upper and lower body injuries.

She remains in hospital under police guard.

It took firefighters around two hours to bring the fierce flames under control.

A 43-year-old woman, a 12-year-old child and a support dog managed to escape the blaze unharmed.

A crime scene has been set up, where arson detectives are sifting through the home to figure out what sparked the blaze.
