New Delhi: State Bank of India on Wednesday said the Centre has approved the extension of tenure of its Managing Director Ashwini Kumar Tewari till December 31, 2027.In a regulatory filing, SBI said the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, through a notification dated December 16, has re-appointed Tewari as Managing Director beyond his current term, which is ending on January 27, 2026. His tenure will now continue till the date of his superannuation on December 31, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.The bank said the re-appointment will take effect from the date Tewari assumes charge of the post.Tewari had taken charge as SBI Managing Director in January 2021 after previously serving as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SBI Card. His appointment, along with that of Swaminathan J, had come after the Banks Board Bureau recommended their names for the MD posts following interviews of candidates from SBI and other public sector banks.SBI is India’s largest lender by assets and plays a key role in the country’s banking and financial system.
