The soap event of all soap events, Corriedale, is looming, as the casts of both Coronation Street and Emmerdale unite to usher in ITV’s new soap ‘power hour’ transmission pattern.

Yesterdays trailer release confirmed a further 11 characters that will be caught up in the catastrophic car pile up, with Corrie’s Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), James Bailey (Jason Callender), Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey), Carla Connor (Alison King) and Shona Platt’s (Julia Goulding) all involved.

Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) are also confirmed to be appearing in the super-ep.

They’ll be joining the already announced David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), Dr. Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).

Well, the drip feeding is officially over, as the bosses at Corrie and Emmerdale have confirmed exactly who’ll be appearing in the soap extravaganza, and who’ll potentially be meeting their maker as mass carnage has been confirmed – characters will die.

Pregnant Charity is later seen helping also-pregnant Shona who screams in anguish in hospital, while back at the scene, Kevin and Abi desperately search for Abi, while Robert and Joe hunt for Aaron.

Corriedale, will be an hour-long spectacular, airing at 8pm on January 5 with no early release on ITVX, while half hour episodes of both Emmerdale and Corrie will be shown at 7pm and then 7:30pm – though these episodes will be available earlier in the day on the streamer.

Iain MacLeod, ITV’s Executive Producer for Continuing Drama, previously teased the mega episode, saying: ‘It’s beyond exciting that filming is under way on Corriedale. There is a massive buzz around both the Leeds and Manchester sites and the images coming out of the shoot are utterly spectacular.

‘And that’s before we’ve even got to all the brilliant transpennine interactions between characters from the different shows!

He added: ‘As a soap fan myself, I think my head is going to explode when the episode airs next year. It will be mind-blowing, historical and unmissable.’
