Geordie Shore star Holly Hagan’s sister, Darci Rose Gibson, died from multiple organ failure after an ‘MDMA overdose’, an inquest has heard.
The inquest opened at Manchester Coroner’s Court on Monday, where it was told the late 19-year-old had ‘high levels’ of drugs in her body as toxicology tests found.
She died after a night out at Manchester’s Warehouse Project, where it is understood she mixed crystal MDMA into her drink, which led to an accidental drug overdose.
After she was rushed to the hospital suffering from a cardiac arrest, acting senior coroner, Zak Golombeck, confirmed Darci died at Manchester Royal Infirmary on October 20.
‘There was a suspicion at the time that she had taken illicit drugs. This was confirmed to the clinicians,’ the coroner revealed at the inquest.
‘Multi-organ failure’ and ‘MDMA overdose’ have been shared as the provisional cause of death, pending a full inquest.
The inquest was adjourned to a later date. No further details were heard, and no date for a full inquest was set, according to the Daily Mail.
Har sister, the 33-year-old reality star, opened up about the final hours of Darci’s life in an impactful interview earlier this month.
Hagan shared the horror she experienced seeing her little sister in hospital, covered in tubes and wires.
‘I opened the curtain, and I have never seen anything like that in my life. I hope no parent or sibling ever has to see anything like that.’
A scan then revealed that she was brain dead, after which the doctors ran a series of tests to see if she showed any signs of life – all of which came back negative.
‘This will sound awful, but in a way, I can’t say glad, but it was a better option than there being some signs of life and for her to come out of that in a way that wouldn’t have been her, and she wouldn’t have any quality of life,’ Hagan said at the time.
In a tribute post on Instagram after her death, Hagan wrote: ‘She lived in Darci world, forgetting to turn lights off, didn’t know how to lock doors after coming in from a night out, leaving the freezer open so my mam came down to a puddle of defrosted food.
‘…‘I don’t know if I’m behaving in a way I assumed I would when grieving but I genuinely feel she has given me so much strength and is watching over us all as our guardian angel.’
Last week, she revealed that her late sister’s heart was donated on Paul C Brunson’s podcast, We Need To Talk.
‘I’ll be really honest. It was a selfish decision,’ Hagan, who is currently pregnant with her second child, said about the decision.
‘We wanted her life to mean something. We wanted to be able to say that she’d saved a life, like that was for us.
‘That was to give us peace. A lot of people like, “oh, you’re so selfless and brave”. We weren’t, we wanted her to have achieved this.’
