Christmas is known for being particularly dramatic in Albert Square and this year looks set to be no different, with EastEnders star Jessie Wallace stating that the upcoming festive offering is unlike anything she’s done before.
The Slaters have been at the centre of the BBC One soap in the build up to Christmas, with much of the emphasis on Zoe (Michelle Ryan) after her historic comeback that was two decades in the making.
Zoe, as viewers know, has been conducting a search for her long-lost son, with Kat determined to support her in every way possible.
However, the situation grew complicated around Halloween when it became apparent that someone was out to get Zoe, playing twisted mind games and spooking her at every opportunity.
Zoe’s behaviour in the lead up to such incidents left Kat and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) uncertain over whether or not Zoe could be trusted but the situation has escalated in the weeks since, with Zoe determined to find out who is making her life a nightmare.
The storyline will reach a peak around the festive season, with Christmas Day seeing Zoe left reeling from her mysterious discovery.
The community dinner being held in the Vic goes quickly south when the Slaters clash with another Walford family as yet another secret is blown!
Kat prioritises her daughter over business as she gets rid of everyone in the Vic in a bid to protect a vulnerable Zoe but a further situation arises which proves to be absolutely catastrophic.
While much of the twists are bring kept under wraps, Jessie Wallace – who portrays Kat Slater – promised big things to come for the festive episode, branding it an ‘explosion of flavours’.
‘Christmas Day is amazing’, she told Rylan Clark on the latest episode of Air Rylan. ‘We’ve just finished it. It’s just one thing after another after another.
‘Just when you’re getting over that shock, another appears and it’s just brilliant. I’ve never done anything like it’.
Consider us very intrigued.
In addition to the Zoe storyline, the festive period in Walford will also be big for Max Branning (Jake Wood), who takes centre stage in his very own flashforward episode, which will find the longtime lothario in trouble in 2027.
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One or stream from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
