Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer have been found dead in their home with police investigating it as a double homicide.
The bodies of both the Hollywood director, 78, and his 68-year-old wife were reportedly discovered at their home in Los Angeles with what seemed to be knife wounds.
Reiner has directed classic films including the likes of When Harry Met Sally, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride and This Is Spinal Tap, while Singer was an actress and photographer.
The Los Angeles Police Department has told ABC7 that the deaths are being investigated as homicides.
A family member is reportedly being questioned by police, but no arrests have been made.
A spokesperson for the family said: ‘It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner.
‘We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.’
The couple met on the set of When Harry Met Sally and got married in 1989, the year it came out, and went onto have children Jake, Nick and Romy together.
In a news conference, LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton has revealed the investigation is ongoing.
‘At this time, the Los Angeles Police Department is not seeking anyone as a suspect or as a person of interest,’ he said.
‘And we will not be doing that until we conduct our investigation and move forward.’
He confirmed that family members will be interviewed but insisted ‘no one has been detained’ and ‘no one is being questioned as a suspect’.
Hamilton said: ‘We’re going to try to speak to every family member that we can to get to the facts of this investigation.’
A neighbour told ABC7 that Billy Crystal – who starred in When Harry Met Sally – was seen looking ‘like he was about to cry’ as he visited the crime scene, while Larry David was also reportedly spotted visiting the scene.
