Brits face dangerous flooding and huge downpours on Monday as up to 100mm of rain is expected to fall in parts of the UK.

The Met Office has issued amber and yellow rain warnings for the south of Wales as well as the south west, north west and north east of England.

The deluge will last throughout Monday and could cause power cuts, flooded roads and challenging driving conditions.

The Environment Agency has also issued four flood warnings for the RIver Cocker, River Ehen, River Rothay and Keswick Campsite.

An amber warning urges Brits to take care on the roads with ‘danger to life’ flooding expected in Cumbria and Wales.

Meteorologists predict 50-80 mm of rain is likely to fall quite widely in south and southwest Wales with some places seeing close to 100 mm.

Cumbria will also face as much as 100mm of rain.

The impact of this heavy downpour will be higher due to recent wet weather and saturated ground, the Met Office fears.

Jonathan Day, Flood Duty Manager at the Environment Agency, said on Friday: ‘Significant surface water flooding impacts are possible in parts of the North of England on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

‘There are also possible significant river flooding impacts in parts of the North of England on Sunday and Monday, with minor flooding impacts possible more widely across northern England over the weekend.

‘Environment Agency teams are out on the ground, taking action to reduce the impact of flooding and support those communities affected.

‘We urge people not to drive though flood water – it is often deeper than it looks and just 30cm of flowing water is enough to float your car.’

Areas facing yellow rain warnings have been told to be wary of spray and flooding on roads, as well as interruption to power supplies.

These areas will be hit by as much as 60mm worth of rain on Monday.
