California’s Democratic-controlled legislature passed a trio of bills aimed at redrawing the state’s congressional map. The move, designed to send five more Democrats to Congress, is a direct response to Texas doing the same thing with Republican seats. “We wouldn’t be here if Texas had not done what they just did,” Gov. Gavin Newsom says. The power play is now in the hands of California voters who will decide whether or not to approve the partisan map in a special election in November.
