The U.S. Border Patrol’s Gibraltar station was contacted and responded to the scene of a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of a man with an outstanding warrant in a homicide.
According to a report by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Gibraltar station responded to the call for assistance at about 2 a.m. on March 20.
The stop was made in the area of Summerfield Road and Dorr Street.
The sheriff’s office said the man behind the wheel could not produce proper identification.
Nevertheless, officers said through investigative techniques, a deputy was able to ascertain the driver’s identity.
Upon conducting a background check through a police network, it was discovered that the 43-year-old man from Honduras was wanted on a 2020 homicide warrant out of Marion County, Indiana.
A U.S. Border Patrol agent was able to positively identify the driver of the vehicle as the suspect wanted on the warrant.
The wanted foreign national was taken into custody without incident.
The case remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office’s Uniformed Services Division.
