Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced appointments to several state boards and commissions recently, including six area residents.
Archie Drake, of Northville, CEO at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, was reappointed to the Certificate of Need Commission. Drake was reappointed as a member representing hospitals for a term April 10, 2025-April 9, 2028. Drake holds an associate degree in nursing from Texarkana College, a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a Master of Business Administration from Amberton University.
Greg Salwin, of Clarkston, director of health care initiatives at Stellantis, was also reappointed to the Certificate of Need Commission. Salwin will serve as a member representing companies that are self-insured for healthcare coverage for a term March 20, 2025-Jan. 1, 2028. Salwin holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Public Administration from Oakland University.
April Maycock, of Beverly Hills, was reappointed to the State Historical Records Advisory Board as a member at large for a term, March 20, 2025-Dec. 31, 2028. Maycock is a probate register and director of information services for the Wayne County Probate Court. Maycock has a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in management information systems from the University of Michigan – Dearborn and additionally serves on the National Center for State Courts’ guardianship and technology steering committee.
Kenya Lowe, of Farmington Hills, was appointed to the Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council, for a term, commencing March 20, 2025. Lowe succeeds Annie Urasky, who resigned. Lowe is the director of the Division on Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing at the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. Lowe holds a Bachelor of Arts in education and special education from Michigan State University.
Oliver Gross, of Oxford, senior fellow of energy storage and electrification at Stellantis, was appointed to the Michigan Council on Future Mobility and Electrification. Gross was appointed for a term March 6, 2025-October 21, 2025. Gross succeeds Gary Oshnock, who resigned. Gross serves on the Moxion Power Corporate Advisory Board, the Calix Technical Advisory Committee, and the AnteoTech Scientific Advisory Board. Gross has a Bachelor of Science and Master of Applied Science in materials science from the University of Toronto.
Jennifer Evans, of Farmington Hills, was appointed to the Michigan Freedom Trail Commission, for a term March 6, 2025-Feb. 1, 2027. Evans succeeds Patrina Chatman. Evans is senior director of exhibitions and collections at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Evans has a Bachelor of Arts in film, cinema, and video studies from the University of Michigan and a Master of Arts in media studies from Wayne State University. The Michigan Freedom Trail Commission protect the legacy of the Underground Railroad and the antislavery movement in Michigan.
