Man accused of violent beating in Holly arrested in Warren

A 21-year-old Shelby Township man who was arrested in Warren last week and charged with two felonies is also accused of committing serious crimes in other communities.

Joseph Matthew McDonough allegedly beat a 58-year-old Holly woman and stole her car and credit cards with the help of her 16-year-old daughter on March 2.

According to WDIV-TV (Channel 4), Holly police officers said they were familiar with McDonough from his previous contacts with them. A be-on-the-lookout alert was sent to law enforcement agencies in Oakland and Macomb counties and the victim’s car was reported as stolen.

Clinton Township police attempted a traffic stop of the stolen vehicle but the driver fled and the automobile was later found abandoned in a parking lot.

Holly officers identified McDonough and the 16-year-old female as suspects in two additional auto thefts in the area this month.

According to 37th District Court and Macomb County Jail records, McDonough was arrested on March 10 and arraigned March 11 and charged with two felony counts of fleeing from a police officer and assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer. He was also charged with a misdemeanor of driving without a valid driver’s license.

The 16-year-old girl was lodged at the Oakland County Children’s Village juvenile detention facility and is also facing charges.

McDonough pleaded not guilty to the Warren charges in 37th District Court and has a probable cause hearing scheduled for March 25, 8:45 a.m. in front of Judge Suzanne Faunce. Bond was set at $5,000 cash/surety and McDonough must wear a GPS tether if he posts bond.

According to Macomb County Jail records, McDonough also has warrants in Grosse Pointe Farms. Waterford Township, Sterling Heights, Shelby Township and Troy.
