When it comes to murder mysteries, not many streaming platforms deliver the goods quite like Netflix does.

From the Knives Out films to acclaimed series such as The Sinner, Bodies and The Residence, viewers at home are spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding what mystery thriller to watch.

But, following the release of His & Hers on Netflix on January 8, the six-part series – which is currently number 1 on the streaming service – could well be your perfect next binge watch.

Adapted from Alice Feeney’s 2020 novel of the same name, the show stars Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson as a pair of estranged spouses who are both trying to solve a murder where they believe the other is the prime suspect.

Anna (Tessa) is a reclusive news reporter who is captivated by this haunting murder in her sleepy hometown of Dahlonega, Atlanta.

Lauded by Digital Spy as containing the ‘most diabolical twist in years’, viewers have already torn through all six episodes of the new series.

Lucy Mangan of The Guardian also described the show as ‘ideal new year TV’ in her three-star review.

IGN also claimed that the six-part show ‘keeps you hooked from beginning to end’ in their 9/10 rating.

Capping off the show’s praise, Variety called it ‘one of the most unhinged shows ever seen on television’.

It also claimed that a ‘jaw-dropping, layered ending’ will leave viewers ‘gobsmacked’.

Discussing the journey to get her book adapted into a series, Alice Feeney told TUDUM: ‘When His & Hers lands on Netflix, it will be seven years since I wrote the book in my shed.

‘What a journey it has been. I love this story with all of my dark heart, I love the TV series too, and everyone who helped make this dream come true.’

Meanwhile viewers have also thrown their support behind the show.

‘This was all out fun Jon Bernthal just gets better and better this limited series offers solid drama and even comedy the perfect weekend binge,’ CamShowTV shared on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘This show takes you on a ride where you constantly think you’ve cracked the case. Two scenes later you’re completely lost again, completely humbled by the writers. The acting? Insanely good. In the end, it just feels like a really well-rounded package – entertaining, smart, and constantly keeping you on your toes,’ user BabyG42069 shared on IMDB.

‘The way I thought the plot twist was obvious…only for the real reveal to happen, something I never saw coming. This series ate!’ Nasiphi added on X.

The arrival of His & Hers on Netflix comes after a similarly ‘irresistible’ Netflix thriller soared up the rankings on the streaming platform.

Run Away, based on Harlan Coben’s 2019 novel of the same name, follows Simon (James Nesbitt) and Ingrid (Minnie Driver) as they search for their estranged daughter, Paige.

After Simon assaults Paige’s boyfriend, Aaron, and Aaron later shows up dead, Simon soon becomes the chief suspect in his murder.

So far, the show has racked up a 76% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with fans reacting to the shocking twists on social media.
