New Delhi: The government has exempt 14 copper products from the Copper Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 dated April 26, 2024, for a period of one year, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) said.These products include Silver bearing Oxygen Free Copper, Zirconium Copper used in generator rotor coils, End Wadge/ Rotor Center Wedge-material grade Berylium Alloy Copper Bar used in generator and certain Copper Alloy Strips the end use of which is bus bar for automobiles. Copper Finned tubes (externally and internally finned) used in chillers, High Strength Copper Alloy Tube used in Air-conditioning systems and Electrical applications are some of the other products in the exemption list.“DPIIT has received various request form Industry and Industry Association for issuance of No Objection Certificate for facilitating the import of specialized copper products for use in various sectors, which either do not fall under the Standards mentioned in Copper Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 dated April 26, 2024 notified by DPIIT or not available in adequate quantity and required quality from domestic sources,” the department said in an order.It said that the department has decided to exempt these products in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for a period of one year from the date of publication of this order.The exemption will be subject to the following conditions such as the importer informs the BIS in its letter head duly signed by its authorized signatory all relevant details within seven days of clearance of such consignment through email, the importer maintains quarterly record of such goods or articles and furnish to the government authorities in its letter head duly signed by its authorized signatory through email and submits a plan for indigenization of goods or article to the centre.“The said exemption of the listed copper products is granted only for the specific end use mentioned therein and only to the end users on Actual User condition for a period of one year from the date of publication of this Order,” the DPIIT said, adding that the government reserves the right to review the products and end use.
