We live for those moments in soap that rock us to our very core; that make us question everything we thought we knew and reshape our view of the entire programme. Coronation Street delivered one last night that still has us reeling…

The delightful Shuttleworth siblings, George (Tony Maudsley) and Glenda (Jodie Prenger) are celebrating their birthdays. With Glenda’s birthday last night and George’s in a fortnight, a joint party was on the agenda.

Not Earth shattering so far? Bare with us, we’ll get there.

Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) ended up taking charge of the gathering and the attention she lavished over her boyfriend, George, left poor Glenda out in the cold. Opening up to Sean Tully (Antony Cotton), she also admitted that she’s been feeling lonely.

The biggest reveal, though? The one we mentioned before that shocked us to no end? Glenda wasn’t celebrating any old birthday. It was her 50th!

Glenda’s age revealed

Even Tony Maudsley was shocked at the revelation!

Viewers were as shocked as Tony to learn of Glenda’s true age, taking to X/Twitter to voice their disbelief.

Fan’s root for Glenda to find love

Glenda’s revelation that she’s lonely also struck a chord with Corrie viewers, with a unifying declaration that she deserves to find some love and happiness.

Actress Jodie spoke to Digital Spy last year about Glenda’s approach to finding a partner: ‘I feel she fronts a lot and I feel the essence of it is that she just wants to be loved by someone and has never met anyone to love her, really.

‘I think she laughs and jokes about it but again I find that a very…almost like a Northern trait. I’ve had family members who, even on the darkest day, tried to make a joke of it but deep down it rips them apart.

‘I think that’s what she does. She jokes about the fellas – ‘Oh, as you know if I ever met anyone’. But she really wants to say, ‘Oh, do you know, I’d love to meet somebody’. But I can’t see it going right for Glenda’.

She later had a short-lived romance with Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell). Speaking to Radio Times in the aftermath of their split, Jodie joked: ‘I mean, I’m not being funny, but I got dumped, so you’re bringing up a very raw situation for me!

‘I’m still not over it, but hey-ho, she had a little dalliance with a toy boy! I hope she finds love again. I mean, if Pedro Pascal wants to come on the show, I’ll be happy to do it…’

In another interview, Jodie again spoke on Glenda’s lack of love life: ‘I hope she finds love again. God love her, she’s been on every dating site!

‘I’ve always been a bit of a Mills and Boon fan myself, so I’d like her to find love again. Although maybe just for a bit! If she got married, knowing Corrie they could have you going down a sinkhole on your wedding day. The dress would get filthy!’

It’s safe to say that fans agree that Glenda deserves another shot at love, and if that involves bringing Pedro Pascal onto the cobbles, we’re 100% behind it!
