Tim Howard spent his time at Everton working alongside some very talented forwards.
During his 414 appearances with the Toffees, he saw Romelu Lukaku terrorise defences at Goodison Park, while also sharing the pitch with the likes of Andy Johnson and Louis Saha.
These days, Howard is a big supporter of Ricardo Pepi. But even with David Moyes showing interest, it appears Pepi is on his way to Fulham instead.
Tim Howard speaks highly of Everton target Ricardo Pepi
Pepi has caught the eye at Goodison Park as The Friedkin Group explore options for a new striker this month. Fulham, however, have moved closer to a deal with PSV Eindhoven after tabling a £28m offer.
Howard seems disappointed by the news, having spoken recently about what he believes the 23-year-old could bring to Craven Cottage.
The 46-year-old told Unfiltered Soccer: “I think Ricardo Pepi – when he’s healthy – has shown at PSV that he can score goals. He can do the business, whether that be as a substitute or a starter.
“I think he’s a starting player. I would like to see an American get a run in the Premier League. I think Fulham’s a really good club for him, you know, for an out-and-out number nine.”
This season, Pepi has managed 11 goals and two assists in 22 appearances across all competitions for PSV Eindhoven.
Everton appear more likely to bring in a right-back than a striker
With Thierno Barry scoring four goals in his last five Premier League matches, Everton’s attention seems to have turned towards strengthening the right side of their defence.
The Toffees are clearly serious about adding a new right-back. Just recently, they resumed negotiations with Genoa over Brooke Norton-Cuffy, indicating that position is now the priority.
Beto’s situation remains one to watch. If he does leave before the deadline, it could prompt Everton to move for a forward late in the window.
But for now, all signs point toward defensive reinforcements being the main focus ahead of Friday’s deadline.
