Larian Studios is already reaping the benefits of its Divinity reveal at The Game Awards, as it launches new versions of the fantastic Divinity: Original Sin 2.

The success of Baldur’s Gate 3 put Larian Studios on the map as one of the best developers in the world, and assured more people than ever are paying attention to what it puts out next.

Its announcement of a new Divinity game was a big enough deal for Geoff Keighley to tease it with that mysterious statue, ahead of The Game Awards 2025, and despite a lack of details, the reveal trailer was amongst the most watched trailers of the show.

Larian must’ve planned on the trailer generating a lot of buzz, as it has wisely launched an upgraded version of its previous Divinity game – Divinity: Original Sin 2 – for current-gen platforms.

We consider Divinity: Original Sin 2, especially its definitive edition, one of the best role-playing games ever made, so we highly recommend it if you can’t play Baldur’s Gate 3 because it’s not on Switch.

Anyone who already owns the game on last-gen platforms can snag the upgrades for free, but newcomers can take advantage of a handsome limited-time discount.

The PlayStation version (which nets you the game on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5) is only £12.49, while the Xbox version is £14.52.

Nintendo fans have perhaps drawn the short end of the stick as the Switch 2 version is being sold at full price: £44.99. However, since the original Switch 1 version is discounted too, at £22.49, you can buy that version and then claim the free upgrade.

Thanks to The Game Awards, there’s also been renewed interest in Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Steam.

According to SteamDB, the game had picked up several thousand new players after The Game Awards aired on Friday, December 12, when it saw a notable uptick, crossing the 10,000 concurrent players mark on Sunday.

And while it’s not been as drastic, even the first Original Sin saw a spike in interest this past weekend, jumping to more than 2,000 concurrent players.

There were only small increases for earlier entries in the series, such as Divine Divinity and Divinity 2, but it may be that they are closer to what the new Divinity game will be. The earlier titles were action role-players, not turn-based games, which you would assume is why Larian called this new one ‘Divinity’ and not Original Sin 3.

And yet a new job ad at Larian suggests that they are looking for new people with turn-based experience. Although they’ve previously said they’re working on multiple new projects, so that’s not necessarily related to Divinity.

Another beloved role-playing game that made a splash at The Game Awards is also enjoying a surge in interest, with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. While most people typically tune into The Game Awards for new announcements, Expedition 33’s multiple award wins, including Game of the Year, did not go unnoticed.

Its boosted player numbers on Steam were to be expected, thanks to the free update that accompanied the win and added new boss fights and a new environment to explore.

According to Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics, its Game Awards victories have netted Clair Obscur a lot of new fans. More than 200,000 new copies were sold following the show, with 52,000 Xbox players checking the game out on Xbox Game Pass.

A Switch 2 port almost feels inevitable at this point, or at the very least, something developer Sandfall Interactive should seriously consider. Third-party ports for Cyberpunk 2077 and Star Wars Outlaws have shown it’s perfectly possible to get Clair Obscur running on Nintendo’s hardware, so it’s probably only a matter of time.

Back in May, studio CEO Guillaume Broche was asked about a potential Switch 2 port during an interview with French YouTuber mistermv, and he certainly didn’t rule it out.

‘It’s too early to say, but we’re kind of in a situation where… let’s say there are a lot of opportunities showing up – way too many at once – and we’re figuring out what we’ll go for and what we won’t. But yeah, it’s definitely something that could be interesting,’ said Broche, via MP1st.
