Right from day one, everyone knew Corriedale was going to be something special, including the respective casts of Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
Lovers of Corrie and the Dales alike have been salivating for years over the prospect of ITV’s twin flagship continuing dramas combining for an epic crossover long before the first development meeting.
I should know. I was one such salivating fan.
Now that dream has finally been made reality, in a ground-breaking hourlong episode where major characters from both soaps find their worlds literally colliding on a dark country road in an explosive, fiery car crash.
The all-star cast of characters from both beloved soaps include fan favourites such as Carla Connor (Alison King), Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), and many more.
Soap nerds aren’t the only ones freaking out over the legends of the Dales rubbing shoulders with the icons of the cobbles.
Corriedale stars have eagerly expressed their delight at sharing screentime with major league soap legacy characters. Emma Atkins, speaking on a panel at the premiere, enthused about shooting scenes with David (Jack P Shepherd) and Shona Platt (Julia Goulding):
‘I think it’s that thing with when you grow up watching something and you have so much respect for, the other side of the M62, so to speak, and you’re just like, now I’m working with these incredible people.
‘I had a scene with Julia and Jack, and watching them do their stuff, I have a childlike mentality when it comes to special episodes like this, because I don’t think it’s ever going to be done again, so you kind of have to embrace every moment that you’re in, whoever you’re working with, because it’s just a camaraderie thing, isn’t it?
‘And the community, that’s my thing. So anyone and everyone who wants to be there and wants to feel they’re all in, I’m part of magic, you know, something special.’
While we don’t how exactly how Charity crosses with the Platts yet, the smart money suggests it’s something to do with pregnancy. Shona is currently carrying a baby with a serious medical condition that makes the child unlikely to survive without highly risky surgery, something that has tested and strained her marriage to David, who is deeply worried for his wife’s wellbeing.

Charity, of course, has a baby bombshell of her own to explode. The devious Dingle has been desperate to conceal the fact that her so-called surrogate baby for Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) and Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) is actually the result of her one-night stand with Ross Barton (Michael Parr). Maybe these two baby-mamas to be come to each other’s aid amidst the devastation of the crash.
Shona’s not the only soap legend Charity is set to meet. Jack P Shepherd teased a tiny spoiler where she and David cross with some serious A-listers of the Cobbles and Dales, such as Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) and Ken Barlow (William Roache).
‘Me and Emma, we were lucky enough to be with Pollard and Ken as well, with both of them. We were in that scene just, well, I was only in the scene like right at the end or at the beginning, but you get to go over it,’ he said.

Emma waxes over her big moment with Eric and Ken. ‘I haven’t told my mum yet, but she’ll be so excited about that because it’s a gold soap moment and I’m part of it, so I’m like, that’s pretty cool.’
What was that big moment, I hear you cry? Jack P Shepherd addresses it with a cryptic joke.
‘Mum, I freed Ken’s flapjack.’ He quips. ‘And I’m so heavily pregnant as well.’ Emma laughs.
What could this possibly mean? How does a flapjack fit into a car-crash? I’m sorry, but you’ll just have to tune in to find out…
