Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) secret has had a good long run in Emmerdale.
Ever since her one-night stand with Ross Barton (Michael Parr) that resulted in her pregnancy, she has managed to convince Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) and Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) that the baby she’s carrying is theirs, as per their surrogacy agreement.
She’s even lied to her husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) and thrown a suspicious Ross off the trail.
But some secrets can’t stay buried forever. Especially if you go blurting them to your ex-girlfriend. Now a guilty Charity’s confessed all to her old flame Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), all she needs to do is to stop her telling anyone else.
While Charity cuddles up with Mackenzie over the festive period, a threat looms. All Emmerdale bosses have teased is that ‘a secret explodes’ and ‘the truth is delivered.’
That can only mean one thing.
Charity’s baby bombshell is about to detonate, with huge consequences not only for Charity, but everyone she cares about.
Charity agreed to be a surrogate for Sarah due to her adopted granddaughter’s rare medical condition called Fanconi anaemia, meaning that she is likely to die while relatively young. That’s why she and Jacob have decided to have a baby while they are still able to.
If Sarah and Jacob discover that their surrogate baby is actually not theirs after all, it will destroy their only chance of having a child together along with any relationship they have with Charity – not to mention put a dampener on their New Year’s Day Wedding.
Needless to say, exposing Charity’s infidelity will result in Mackenzie signing divorce papers so fast it will make her head spin. But she’ll have to deal with drama from her baby-daddy too.
The only reason Ross Barton started buddying up to Mackenzie was because he was getting suspicious about her pregnancy. While she’s already fobbed him off with fake DNA results, when the truth comes out, Ross will not be happy that Charity lied. And the baddest Barton isn’t someone you want as an enemy.
