CAA issues dust storm warning for northern governorates

Muscat – Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) issued a formal weather alert regarding a significant dust mass advancing towards the northern regions of the country. According to the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre, the dust alert commenced at 11:00 am on Wednesday, and is expected to remain in effect until 11:00 am on Thursday. This atmospheric phenomenon is projected to impact several key areas, including the governorates of South Batinah, North Batinah, South Sharqiyah, Muscat, and Musandam.

Meteorological experts have classified the intensity of this event as moderate, with a high probability of occurrence. Residents and travellers in the affected areas should anticipate a marked reduction in horizontal visibility, which is forecast to drop to between 500 m and 1,000 m. Furthermore, the high concentration of suspended dust particles poses potential health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups with respiratory sensitivities. Authorities have warned that the prevailing conditions may disrupt traffic flow on both primary and secondary road networks, necessitating increased caution for all motorists during this period.
