Benjamin Nygren aims to take home advantage

It’s been a whirlwind past seven days with two 2-2 away draws, one feeling like a win and the other feeling like a defeat, and the crucial matches just keep on coming with a must-win game as Celtic move on to the eighth day of a gruelling schedule.

This one is at home, though, under the lights at Paradise as the Hoops take on Dutch side FC Utrecht on the last night of league phase football in the UEFA Europa League.

The players know what they need to do, with a win on the night taking Celtic through to the knockout phase play-offs and the attraction of continued European football.

Speaking ahead of the match, Benjamin Nygren said: “We are looking forward to the game.

“Obviously it’s a very important game and we need to do well tomorrow to go through.

‘Every competition we are in is important. We want to do well in every competition we are in.’

“Celtic is a massive club, and a massive club should be in, and do well in, more competitions than just the league.”

“I said before I came here Celtic had everything. First of all, it’s a massive and honourable club, everyone knows about Celtic.

“They’ve been doing good for so many years, and, like I said, a massive club should do well in many competitions.”

The Celts came close to tying things up in Italy last week after deservedly going 2-0 up against Bologna, but the demands on the Hoops of playing with 10 men for much of the game saw the home side grab a 2-2 draw.

The Swedish midfielder said: “It’s a different game tomorrow. Unfortunately, we had to play with 10 men for 70 minutes or something.

“We did well before that and then went 2-0 ahead, but unfortunately, we couldn’t win that game.

“We were still happy with the draw because we had to run so much, and we had a strong defensive performance even when we had 10 men against a strong side.

“But tomorrow is a different game, we play at home and we have to win, so we will be front-footed and make a strong perfomance."
