The fireworks display in London on New Year’s Eve is always iconic, and this year was no exception.

An incredible spectacle was cast over the River Thames, with an impressive array of colour, music, and memorable moments from the last year.

Brave viewers lined the embankment in the cold to soak it up in person, while others watched from the comfort of their own homes.

As the show took us through some of Britain’s best bits from the last year, including the Women’s Rugby World Cup and the Lionesses’ European win, it gave a shoutout to the defining trend of 2025.

Last summer saw endless TikToks using the sound ‘nothing beats a Jet2 holiday’, featuring Jess Glynne’s Hold My Hand, and voiceover artist, Zoë Lister, over some comical footage of a getaway.

Instead of the original narration, the audio played over the fireworks could be heard as: ‘Nothing beats a New Year’s Eve in London’ followed by cheers of ‘Happy New Year’.

The sequence then transitioned into an homage to Wicked, with a message for ‘fellow Londoners’, urging them to ‘stand for positivity and hope […] and come together, for good’.

Alex on X loved the 45 seconds of pop culture playfulness: ‘I am obsessed with London fireworks doing jet2 holiday x wicked crossover’.

Lucas Donnelly agreed, writing: ‘This is iconic. London won’.

The Glynne song was awarded the accolade of TikTok’s song of 2025 in December, a decade after it came out. It soundtracked 6.6m videos on the platform, according to the app.

Speaking about the win, Glynne said: ‘The Jet2 campaign has brought a really fun, light-hearted twist to the song, and seeing it become TikTok’s song of 2025 ten years after its release has been incredible.

‘It breathed new life into it, and I’m so grateful to see a wave of a new audience now connect with it and learn more about the song, and me.

‘I am incredibly grateful for the journey this song is on’

Others commented on the inclusion of the jingle in Wednesday night’s spectacle.

Yas on X joked: ‘We are such an unserious country’.

While users like Tyler Walsh pleaded to ‘leave that song in 2025’.

New Year’s Eve Fireworks is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
