Port Harcourt— The Nigerian Army has recovered petroleum products valued at over N150 million and arrested 19 suspected oil thieves in its ongoing operations against crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.
The troops also dismantled 22 illegal crude refining sites across the region.
Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Danjuma, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the successes were achieved in collaboration with other security agencies.
“Troops of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, in close synergy with other security agencies, have continued to dominate the operational landscape, effectively denying criminal elements freedom of action across the Niger Delta Region,” Danjuma said.
He added: “In several operations conducted between November 23 and December 28, 19 suspected oil thieves were apprehended, 22 illegal refining hubs destroyed, and over 180,000 litres of stolen petroleum products, worth over N150 million, recovered. These operations targeted oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and related crimes across Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States.”
The General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, commended the troops for their achievements and urged residents to support the ongoing fight against oil theft.
“The GOC also called on the people of the region to continue backing the crackdown on criminal networks that compromise critical national infrastructure,” Danjuma said.
