There’s just something so festive about a glass of fizz at Christmas time, so we’ll expect corks to be popping across the country.

And while you can splash out on a fancy bottle, some of the best champagne in the world can actually be purchased for less than £15.

Aldi is home to world-class champagne, including the Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut, which won the top accolade at the World Drinks Awards 2025.

The budget retailer also currently stocks Nicolas de Montbart Champagne Brut, and it’s been reduced from £13.99 for a 75cl bottle to just £9.99 ahead of December 25.

The latter has been in serious demand, with sales currently up by 76% as people stock up for Christmas and New Year parties.

As such, Aldi has had to introduce a strict rule for shoppers buying the champers.

To make things fairer, Aldi has put a new restriction in place for Nicolas de Montbart Champagne, limiting the amount customers can buy to four bottles.

The champagne is unique as it features a mix of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. These combine to create a drink that’s subtle and elegant, with bright fruit and delicate floral notes.

Aldi claims it’s an ‘easy-drinking, aperitif-style sparkling’ that’s ‘perfect for raising a toast’ with.

The bottles are available in stores now, while supplies last.

Online, the drink has been receiving praise for its low price and flavour.

TikTok reviewer @fragrandnerd claims it has ‘plenty of biscuit notes’, ‘some almond’ and is just generally ‘really lovely’ to drink.

While Stephen Bustin previously said in a post on vivino.com that it was ‘unbelievable value’ at Aldi, with ‘lots of bubbles’. However, he added that it didn’t have ‘lots of body’.

Rosamund Hall thought: ‘For the money, I’d take this over any prosecco at the same price.’

And Affordable Wine Hunter took to Facebook to say: ‘Nicolas de Montbart reduced for one week from 04/12/25. Catch it if you can.

‘Yes, it’s champagne. Yes, I’ve tried it and like it. It’s more simple than other more expensive champagnes, but I do rate it.’

Metro’s resident drink expert, Rob Buckhaven, also gave it a try and shared his verdict…

He said the drink has ‘bright and brisk bubbles with a pleasant green apple skin and Meyer lemon-zesty bitterness, alongside a prickle of minerality and a lemon-curd-on-toast finish.’

He continued: ‘A young style that’s not overly complex, its flavour intensity falters on the mid-palate though its finish of preserved lemon and oyster shell is persistent, which is a good sign. A very solid champagne for £10.’
